Random loot in RPGs
I hate random loot in RPGs. Those games when you get randomly generated loot (unlike DkS). Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur use this system. What do you think about this? Does it annoys you? What other games use this system?

Re: Random loot in RPGs
Do I get annoyed when I hunt for some eyelid stuff in the ruins, and I receive randomly loot that includes bloodgrass and an orcish helm that has no given reason at all to be there?
I feel that way about RPGs all the time. I Aldo hate level scaling enemies, enemies that spawn at certain levels, and enemies that are impossible to kill due to not skill or equipment, but in general level.
I feel that way all the time.

Borderlands, which is one of it's biggest selling points. Got to the point where I had to decide which bloody revolver I had to drop because I found one with like, 1 damage more then another >_>

Re: Random loot in RPGs
I was playing KoA, fighting against a witch who used spells (nahhhh). After the fight, I searched her body for loot. To my deception, she carried a great hammer. My character is a sorcerer.

Re: Random loot in RPGs
Heh. I dont mind randomized loot when it is done carefully. but stuff like getting a drop of tanned hides for killing a monster. DAHELL. ect. however random loot from opponents such as fight a guy with a gun. get said gun or something he could reasonably be carrying is fine.

Re: Random loot in RPGs
I loved the unique items that could drop when I played Diablo 2 a decade ago ., personally I would like to have something similar in Dark Souls., but not to the same degree.
I remember Ubisoft has done something similar with ''Champions of Norrath'' where you could also get character class specific rare drops.
It could be DEX or STR based weapons in DkS ,or awesome armor sets to name an example , which would've made builds somewhat more unique in the earlier stages of the game., before the inevitable modding.

Re: Random loot in RPGs
haha I played Sacred for a bit on Xbox , but it wasn't my kind of game ,
I believe it holds a ridiculous amount of rare unique drops and sets which are probably too difficult to ever obtain in a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Random loot in RPGs
Yep, the sheer amount of randomly generated randomly dropped loot is amazing. And the uniqe sets are regenerated per level so they increase in power, meaning 2 of the same item found 10 levels apart will be different.

I love random loot generation, hence my love of Borderlands, but it can get annoying when it does the same with quest rewards.

Re: Random loot in RPGs
I love randomly generated loot especially in games like Skryim. I wish they could have developed a system for discovering certain items in places, like after going through a dungeon where there are a lot of draugr you could get the Ancient Nord Armor or something that has relation to the area.

Hmmm maybe said wolves ate a dude with a mystical fire ring and 437 gold, I know I always cut open the bellies of any wolves I kill to see what they have been eating.Reaperfan wrote:Don't ask me why this random pack of wild wolves are carrying a Mystical Fire Ring and 437 gold!
