Backstabs are important in PVP?

In my opinion, if backstabbed did not existed, 40% of the people would quit PVP. What do you guys think?

And please do not turn this into a war

I usually don't BS so I wouldn't really care. Though, I would imagine people would get angry.

I will one hit kill a person, with a parry, but I pretty much never Backstab in PvP. I'd like to say I'm above it, but rather I can just never get one to land if I try. Whenever I do try I always end up behind them, hitting attack only to appear five feet away being backstabbed and instantly killed. I'm not a fan of BS in the current PvP set up, because of the lag. I might PvP more without it.

Parry is totally fine, thats why daggers exist, but backstabs are waaay too much laggy. Only a skilled player can parry, but anyone can backstab.

I assume strafing while moving forwards is a big part of PvP? 90% of my fights go like that, someone basically pushes shield first into me, then a backstab that doesn't really look right. I was always wondering is it truly lag or are just the hit boxes a bit wonky?

EDIT: Aside, don't confuse my Parries for skill. I really suck at PvP, I just get lucky sometimes when people are too aggressive.

This poll is pretty ridiculous, the options are dumb. It sounds like you're just mad bro. There are many many many ways to avoid a backstab, and if you want to get any better at pvp I suggest you learn how, because posting topics like this are annoying to say the least.

All I see when I PvP is the person running around in a circle trying to BS me. I don't go for a BS even if it appears open, it's dumb.

I will parry/riposte though.

The poll options are very biased towards favoring those who don't backstab. You aren't going to get honest discourse if your opening statement mocks them. Also remember that lag is a two way street and can present problems to a backstabber who thinks you're somewhere you're not. It's not always a home run.

i'm much better at the 'smash things' approach. it serves it purpose though, you let the opponent get behind you and you have it coming. not hard to defend against, really.... know when and how to use lock and how to recognise and stuff/punish an attempt and it almost never happens unless i make a clumsy mistake. rolfap helps. imo bs hitbox should be shrunk a little though, reduce lagstabs. now full havels with flipring and lightning ectoc? i admit thats frustrating

I don't go for backstabs in duels, but in random invasions it's anything goes i will take what they offer. (long as i dont get pivoted first eh? )

Yea after I read what I wrote, it looks pretty wrong, sorry about that. I was pvping in Painted world, and many people were just camping where they summoned me through the red soapstone, and they just backstabed me with the hornet's ring while I bow. So I wanted to know, what makes people do this instead of having a nice duel? Ignore this thread and answer the other

If only it were as simple as facestabbing, I did enjoy playing spy from time to time.

To your new question, Some people just want to win plain and simple. Some like myself love challenges and honourable matches(Even though I lose around 95% of them), while others just like to kill and get souls. Cheaters gonna cheat, players gonna play, and gators gonna gate. As they say.

I don't think my no vote really counts, people don't really live long enough to be backstabbed by me. I have been backstabbed a few times and it never does any threatening damage to me, I usually just swap to WoG, bait them to try again and blow them up.

I answered yes in the poll but I think you should have left it at "do you backstab in pvp"
or do you think backstabs are important, didn't like to answer that I cannot win a pvp match without backstabs that is too much and not always true.

Says the backstabber. Anyway, it's part of PVP. Pretty annoying. I go for the pivot at times, but I dont use the Hornet ring and I prefer well fought battles, which are harder and harder to come by these days in Dark Souls.

There's just too many morons playing this online. I've had better experiences with people while playing something like Battlefield or any other FPS (which are full of ********).

I was just in the P/W and had 5 great fights 2 summons and 3 invations. I didn't win every fight, but they were just great cause not one went for the back stab and no circling .. it was fun, now, with that said if I had positoned myself to get back stabbed once, I would not be upset..It would teach me a lesson..lol The game is a kill or be killed game but PVP should have to do with some skill and timing. I think if all you do is search for back stabs and OHK you may be cheating yourself out of a great duel..

I don't see a big difference between slashing away with a BKGA or any other stagger weapon than looking for a BS, both tactics have their disadvantages and openings for the
opponent to take advantage of.

Some hate buffs, some hate WOG, some hate TWOP, some hate BS, this game is crazy.

Is there no middle ground besides the two options? Namely, normal fights but go for a BS when there's an openning? Besides, if its a farmer trio, I don't give **** I'm hornet ringing that ***.

Backstabs are important for this game. Especially for Turtles. BS fishing and spamming are annoying. And, wakeup backstabs/chaining backstabs really suck. But, they all can be avoided, and the pivot backstabs are easily seen.

But, if all someone does is BS fish and chain, then the fight is boring and crappy.

BS is how i deal with 2v1 and 3v1s and flaskers

I gravelord therefore I am faced with 2 vs 1 or 3 vs 1 situations. Critical hits are essential for survival.

And lag affects parry and riposte as much as it affects back stabs.
