Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
I owned a ps1 so I'm ashamed i never played this game. It really feels like fromsoft devs got influenced by sotn. It's almost like a 2-d souls game, or the opposite since sotn came first. I'm glad i decided to get this game off psn, i was never too big into castlevania. I think its cause the first one i played was the one for sega genesis, not saying that one was bad i just didn't enjoy it back then. It was way too hard if i remember right. I would honestly kill for button mapping though, having L1 block and R1 attack would feel sooooo good. Also pulling off some of those special attacks with the dpad is pretty difficult, i actually have this controller that's perfect for this game though. It's an arcade style kinda like genesis controllers. Well yea xD, do you guys love this game? There has to be some fans out there on these forums, cause they really are very similar. This might become one of my favorites, to bad i was so late to the party : (

Well I personally haven't played the game, but I like the few games of Castlevania that I have. I must this for a majority of Castevania games...the soundtrack is beast.

Great game? I can say without any doubt that is the best classic for PS1 plataform of all times. Meatl gear solid comes in second place.
Ah SOTN, the combination of RPG and fast action elements, Amazing storyline, fantastic scenarios, brilliant OST... I can make a huge list

There's a secret messege hidden in the above.
I'm a fan of Castlevana all the way, excluding the 1 through 3 I don't like those, especially Simon's Quest.
I even like Lords of Shadow, which somehow is my favorite other than Portrait of Ruin.
I'm also getting Mirror of Fate when it comes out!

One of the best games I've ever played. Still have it for my PS1, but recently downloaded in on my PS3 and beat it again. And of course there's the glory of one of the greatest game secrets of all time.

welcome to 1998 dude :/
no but really that game is the ****. i played a hole in the disk, then got it on psn. you could put the disk in a CD player and there was a hiden song and dracula would make fun of you for it. i remember most of the codes if you need them

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
Nah, im playing the whole game blind. Like i said, i had a ps1 back then but my only real castlevania experience had been the sega genesis one(forget the name). I only owned like 5-10 games back then, so besides renting i didnt play anything else. MGS is my favorite ps1 game of all time, doubt that will change due to nostalgia but this game is amazing.

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
A fellow forum member mentioned that one of the earlier Castlevania installments is the game that reminds him the most of Dark Souls..Not sure who it was at the moment and if he was talking about SOTN.
Ive only played Castelvania on SNES , Ive been wanting to try out SOTN for a while now , but as far as arcade games go , I think I'll purchase Tony Hawk PS HD & Alan Wake American Nightmare first

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
I'm assuming they were probably talking about SotN. has Its very similar, its an action rpg and even a lot of the items are similar. Like you have two hands and can have a sword or shield(or other stuff eventually im guessing) in either hand. I have a short sword and leather shield, with a cornet(that boosts int, pretty similar to the cornet in demons souls).
I actually was thinking about how *** amazing a 2d souls type game would be, especially if it had game design on par with SotN. Imagine having all the basic mechanics of the souls games in a 2d game. SotN has almost fighting game style controls, so having the whole invader aspect in the game would actually work pretty well if done right. Would be SOOOO cool. We need more indie games with as much originality as those games, not just mario and metriod clones.

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
I'm really loving SotN so far, im not that far in yet. I'm fighting my clone at the moment. There's so many weird secrets in this game, its awesome. I found this room that is a boat hanging from the mansion under an area with a bunch of madusa heads. Theres a telescope and you look in it and see a boat with wings or some ****, i have no idea what it means lol.
I love 2d games, which is why i like that indie devs are keeping them alive, i just wish more of them had the polish and love put into them. An amazing 2d game for ps2 was odin sphere, i loved that game. I never quite beat it, but i got really far. Might play some of that too.

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
Big Castlevaina fan, Simons quest and SotN are the best ones. Now after you beat SotN, Start a new toon and enter your name as "Richter" and you get to play through the castle as him. That's when the game gets really hard man...

The boat you see is the ferry to another part of the castle. I would suggest looking up some of the secrets for the game unless you plan on playing another playthrough. It's a really big game.

I love this effing game, one of my favorites. I got it on the PSP, sunk so many hours into it. Once you get the crissaegrim though the game is broken. I preferred to use that fist weapon, the god-hand thing. Or the best katana.

Re: Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
Yeah, now that I think about it SOTN does have a lot of parallels to DkS, or at least similar dynamics (since most areas in SOTN are easier, and as you level up it does get less challenging). But it has tons of great secret items and spells, shortcuts you can open, and a fairly similar atmosphere. Truly a great game, probably the first one I ever "platinumed" so to speak aside from maybe Mario 3.
