You need to make your character a ninjapirate with two chainkatanachucks with Black Cleric Robe. I guarantee your character will be made of cool.

A starting class doesn't mean much in Dark Souls. I started as a pyromancer and almost never use pyromancy (Dex/Faith build).

Your question should be framed like this (example):
I want to play as a fast theif guy, how should I go about leveling up to have this playstyle?

    Or:
I want to be a master pyromancer. How should I level up and what gear should I take? I want to have heavy armour.

If you want speed for your Thief, you need to keep your equipment load to less than 25% of your total equipment load.

That means, light armour/weapons/shields. Which means, you can't stand toe to toe with enemies and need to circle/parry/play clever.

If this is your first playthrough, you're in for a lot of frustration. With light armour and light weapons, you need skill, which is only developed after playing the game a lot.

But if you still want to try, then focus on DEX; just keep levelling it up until its about 25 or 30. Then get some vitality to around 20 or 25, then push your DEX to 40. Then END I would say.

You won't have much choice of gear until later in the game. Pick a weapon that relies on DEX (Bandit Knife is good for backstabs, Falchion, Scimitar, there's a bunch to choose from). ALWAYS level up your weapon as high as you can, then armour.

Get a bow. A shortbow will help enormously, with wooden arrows. Level it up as well.

And don't go to the wiki to find all the hiding places of items and weapons; you'll ruin your own fun.

I don't know what you want for your Pyro. "swing for your pyro"?

Unless you're very good at games, I would recommend a STR based weapon for your first playthrough, and heavy armour (Knight class/Warrior/Bandit). Knight would probably be easiest. Focus on STR/END/VIT and only level your STR to 27. Use a Bastard Sword, or the Claymore if you find it. The difference between the two won't be much for someone new to the game.

I've always used a bandit knife for my pyro! Also, keep in mind that pyro is the only magic type that isn't dependant on any other stat to function and to function very well. So if you want a really effective pyro you just need about 19 attunement for 5 spell slots and the right spells. Upgrade the pyromancy flame and you're golden. The rest of the stats for pyro can be molded around the type of weapon you would like! big grin

Also note that for a first time player, pyro can be hard, as the souls you spend on upgrading your pyromancy and buying spells is not increasing your defence/resistances.

If you spend 500k souls and upgrade your pyromancy a lot, another play that just spends it on str/dex/int/fth to upgrade their damage will also gain defence.

Unsure if a powerful pyromancer is a great choice for a first playthrough.

Ok, so what are you asking for?

Are you saying you want a character that mainly does Pyromancy?

    This is my Dex/pyro class

    The Fire Blade Dancer

I love playing with, its somewhat a samurai pyromancer really fast and powerfull, for pvp it works, but you got to change some gears for that :face:

Ok, I've tried to do a powerful pyromancer and levelled up pyromancy as fast as possible.

    Wasn't a fun playthrough.

What I recommend, would be to focus on weapons/armour/fighting stats first, and then when you can grind souls a bit, then focus on pyromancy.

So if you want to use mostly pyromancy, I would:
Make sure you have a primary weapon. Dex is good as it'll make your spells be cast faster. Focus on DEX/VIT.

Be careful on spending too much on pyromancy and not levelling up enough. If it's your first playthrough, pyromancy is tough to use primarily. I'm a pretty experienced dark souls player, and trying to kill everything with pyromancy was really hard.

I would get poise on this build, as you don't want your key spells cancelled. How much poise I'm not sure. I'd probably go light armour with Wolf Ring and Bellowing Ring.

@ Pesth: why do you have a 20 STR? Nothing in your class setup benefits from it.

Your shield/weapon only need a 14, and nothing benefits from the higher str.

How did you go about levelling up this character? I recently tried a Pyro focused build, but spending a lot on pyromancy meant more grinding and a slower play through.

How did you go about it?

im going to disagree with you that the starting class doesnt matter. Especailly when making a PVP build its real irritating when your last ten level ups dont show an increase b/c the scaling has deminshed. Know the path of your build and choose accordingly.

Yeah; generally at most it equates to 3 levels, which can be a bunch of souls.

But for a first playthrough, I find it doesn't matter as much. You're not tweaking for a perfect build the first time; just getting a handle on the game itself.
