Castlevania: Harmony of Dispair Empty Castlevania: Harmony of Dispair

    Post by vixder/pennywise Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:53 am

After my recent playthrough of "Symphony of the night" I´m thinking about getting "Harmony of dispair". I downloaded the trial and it seems to be quite fun.
Is it worth getting, if you plan on playing it solo?
Are there some players here for coop? (i´m on PSN)
How about the long-time-motivation? From what I understand, it´s kind of like Diablo in 2D?

Harmony of Despair!? That's a new one on me. I've played 'Harmony of Dissonance' on the GBA SP. Is that the one you mean. If so, it's great.

It's ok. The whole game revolves around having enough stats to kill something though, and half the game is DLC. Also, online is buggered, and there's not much reply value. But if you're a fan of castlevania, go ahead. Feel free to ask anymore questions, I've played the game for quite a bit.

Also Slakemoth, Harmony of Dissonance was the BOMB. That game was my childhood.

So, 'Harmony of Despair' exists? I hang my head in shame. I missed a Castlevania game. That's a first. Thanks Wade.

It's a while since I played it but I enjoyed it. Stunning graphics and yes it is a third person actioner/RPG. Hideo Kojima had some input on the creative side, which I think says it all (no overlong cut scenes though, which is a relief). I've recently started playing the first Darksiders and it reminds me a lot of that and Ninja Gaiden 2 is in the mix there too. It should be relatively cheap now and well worth a punt.

Oh, I thought Lords of Shadows was just another God of War-clone. Now I might check it out, too. How big is the RPG-Part? Is it a Metroidvania-style game?

Haven't played -Harmony of Despair- yet, but I just finished with -Lords of Shadow- before diving back into Dark Souls and I must say that it was pretty fun. The fighting and swinging around reminds me a lot of God of War, but that feeling won't mask the whole game (at least LoS you get to stare at a better looking dude-face). Most disappointing factors about Lords of Shadow is it's too easy to find everything and it doesn't really give you an incentive to play through it again. I mean, you get to unlock a costume after you beat the game, yet I wouldn't really call that a "costume".

If you're wondering about the size of the game, it comes on 2 disks with 14 chapters. Each chapter has a couple of levels with a boss thrown in here and there. Each level has a trial, 4 difficulties, magic thingies and upgrades to find and more than likely some kind of puzzle.

I had lots of fun with LOS and its not a GOW copy because castlevania came first:P but I like the level designs and the combat it difficult at first as for the RPG elements you gain XP to send on different skills and you upgrade all your equipment

Whoa whoa whoa, wait a minute. I'm pretty sure God of War has been around than Lords of Shadows has. LoS is a castlevania game, yes, but it's unlike all the others in it's gameplay.

I hate God of War because Kratos is just a mean ugly thug. I was beating the final boss when I decided he didn't deserve to be God of anything, so I quit and I've never played another one since.

Thanks Isaren for your description. It saved me wracking my brains. And I agree with you the main man (sorry I've forgotten his name) is much easier on the eye than most game guys.

And Gabriel is voiced by Robert "Begbie" Carlyle!

Begbie: That lassie got glassed, and no c*nt leaves here till we find out what c*nt did it.
Man: [shouts] Who the f*ck are you?
    Begbie: Yeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!
    [kicks him in the crotch]

Begbie: Armed robbery. With a replica. I mean, how the f*ck can it be armed robbery with a f*cking replica?
