November 11th is Remembrance Day in Canada. So usually, people will wear red poppies over their hearts (pinned to a coat) early November through out Remembrance Day in respect to all the veterans.

Gotcha. Basically the same thing as Veteran's day here. A lot of VFW groups (Veterans of Foreign Wars) sell little paper poppies here too actually to raise money. I shoulda known......shoulda known.
It's also my oldest sister's birthday. Last year she had a huge party for 11/11/11

I have family that were in the military including some veterans so I usually buy a poppy or two as well. My paternal grandfather was in the Army in WWII and shared some pretty amazing stories (I actually am in line to receive a souvenir from the war from him). My dad was also in the Army during the Vietnam war and his story might be crazier. While most of the troops were deployed to Vietnam he was sent to Germany (he thinks a friend of his whose dad was a senator helped him out). I have an uncle who was not so lucky and let's just say that his story following the Vietnam war is not pleasant. Great guy though.
