Wrath of Gods & Homing Crystal Soulmass defence : Question

This is probably a dumb question but is there anyway to fully block wog and homing crystal soulmass? Im using a strength build with greatshield of artorias and poise above 75. While the damage taken is small is there any combination to get full protection? Giants shield perhaps?

Not that I know of, seeing as how it isn't physical damage. Most people usually just roll through Wrath of the Gods and Homing Crystal Soulmass to land a rolling attack or a backstab.

Oh, and by the way, if you want to block them instead of rolling, then Havel's Greatshield is the better choice. The Greatshield of Artorias may have better stability and can defend against bleed and poison and what not, but the Havel's Greatshield has clearly superior magic defense. It has a 90% magic damage reduction but of course it is extremely heavy and requires a lot more strength.

Giant Shield has only 60% magic reduction, so 40% of the damage would still get through.

Problem is Im using a +15 greatsword and dont want to use Havels ring (so wolf ring instead to keep the poise up). The charge up for gs is too slow to get close quick and break their poise. Any suggestions welcome. I just want to be able to stand there and absorb the hits. Put them into a positionwhere they say "well that does nothing"

Well, if you can manage 76 poise without the Wolf Ring, then the Wolf Ring loses most of its necessity unless you want to be nigh-unstoppable with full Havel's and the Wolf Ring. So if you're fat rolling, I would recommend switching to Havel's to at least be able to medium roll. But as I stated before, Havel's Greatshield makes most magic attacks pretty much useless... oh wait 34 strength. Damn. In that case, the Crest Shield is a better alternative. 80% magic reduction. But seeing as how it isn't a greatshield, its stability is nothing special.

Crest shield is your friend. 80% mag block.

Winner. Didnt realize it had 100% physical reduction aswell. And the weight saved can put back into armour. Cheers Dough. Any point upgrading it for the extra 15 points in stability?

Make a build that can use havel's shield, good luck trying to block dark magic with crest shield lol. Stone shield is good too.

It's not that, it's just that the amount of poise and stamina damage it does will wreck through the Crest Shield's stability and break your guard easily.

No but it breaks your guard A LOT easier then reg magic of any kind (same with black flame), if yiu try to block pursuers with the crest shield you will die since one orb will break your guard and stun you which will do counter damage and you'll get ohko'd.

Plus, Twinklies are an easy upgrade stone to come by.

And yeah, you'll need something with more stability to even have a chance at blocking a full-on Pursuers blast.

Whats wrong with using wr? Its a tank-ish kind of build so want him to absorb abuse without staggering.

You can block dark bead as long as you are strafing/not close (only 1/3 or less of the beads will hit you). I wouldn't recommend blocking anything else if using crest shield as you'll have your guard broken and take a lot of damage. Definitely don't block pursuers.

WoG is ultra stupid because if they turn slightly it "dead angles" you which is full *****-mode. Most people just try to roll-BS WoG, and to be honest they deserve that BS if you can land it.

If you're using pyro the range where they can get WoG off before you can torch them with a GC isn't great so you can mess with them a bit there...but blocking it? Crest or Havel's shield but get ready to roll if they are dead-angling.

So if I stick with greatshield of artorias and use great fireball when they wog it should cast and hit if Im out of the aoe? DEX 17. Really want to stick with greatsword for the build so excuse the dumb questions.
