The Dark Tower Empty The Dark Tower

Post by ViralEnsign_ Fri Jan 11, 2013 7:03 am

JESUS this series is amazing. Im finally up to the last installment and wow what a ride Stephen King has created.

And some of the things that have happened so far (bearing in mind I havent finished the book and just got up to the bit in Lovell, Maine...you know the bit:() are really amazing, really sad, and really fitting.

Props to the King. May I one day have the talent to write a series like that, say thankya.

Curse you with your ability to understand the deeper meaning behind everything! Too much of the symbolism/metaphor goes over my head and its just turning into a slow chase book (only on the first one) sad

Dough you're right where you wanna be then. The first book SEEMS really straightforward since it's just beginning to get the story rolling. You only meet a small number of characters and settings in that book with a lot less context than exists elsewhere. I would compare it to the short story The Little Sisters of Eluria which is a shorter novella with only Roland really. It makes a good story in and of itself but it's only in the broader context where it starts to really shine. I first read the short story before really delving into the Main Dark Tower series and recall liking it but not loving it. Reading it after the series is completely different.

Also, the more King you've read prior to the Dark Tower series the better. I would say over half of what he's written is actually somehow part of the Dark Tower series. It's quite crazy how intricate the web really is.

Yeah, the series is connected to the majority of his books. After reading the first book, I was hooked. Read them all several times.

I hated the lobstrosity part of the story line. But, as the story (including future books) went on, I understood why the lobstrocities were important.
