Re: Random Off-Topic
I think koreans are good at video games because there is much more money invested in that than anywhere else.
And the one and only true sport is handball...
And to add a polemical debate, the only non-video games are Mahjong and Go
Pizzas are good... whatever the form

Hahahah, one of my Korean friends in university had to HIDE his PS3 and video games because he was not allowed to have one. He was pretty good at 2D fighters, but not exactly pro either. I know there is a stereotypical view of Koreans being great at video games, but it's just a stereotype. Most of the girls get plastic surgery when they are old enough too. Apparently that's a pretty normal thing to do.

I still think Koreans are the best. Even if they're robots, they have proven to me that their race is superior in most things I enjoy.

So you deny koreans supremacy in video games?
"O Heretic, swathed in Dark… An eternal curse upon thee…"
I think it's like everything. Korea may have the best video games players, even if this kind of culture is not particulary accepted/recognized in their country.
It's like otakus in Japan, from most foreigners point of view, Japan is often filled with otakus. While in reality, otakus are still a minority, looked down by the majority of japanese people.
But they probably have the most hardcore otakus anyway.

Re: Random Off-Topic
No, I'm sure they have some of the best players, but I don't think it has anything to do with race. It just depends on the amount of hours you are willing to put into a game and how dedicated you are to training/grinding. The Korean players who get the most media attention invest a large amount of time and resources into gaming. There is a lot of concern for "addiction" in Korea due to how heavily wired they are. IIRC, Korea had to pass a law to ban players ages 16 and under from accessing online multi-player games. It seems ineffective though. Hahah.

Re: Random Off-Topic
otaku, no "s".
Its not about race, its about talent and dedication. I've met koreans who can't be bothered to do anything except watch netflix and smoke pot, but an American took the gold in olympic freestyle and grecko wrestling at 163 lbs last year.

Re: Random Off-Topic
It's about the mindset too, quite a lot of people can't be bothered to put that much time and dedication into any one thing, while a lot of people take pride in doing things like that, applying themselves in either their studies, gaming, sports, whatever. They make it the essence of their being. And that's what makes them good at it, not how much they win or score the best points.

Well, NEET and otaku seem to be compatible, why not trying to achieve both?
But I admit otaku is an easier level for me, because unfortunately, I already have a job

Re: Random Off-Topic
Japanese NEETs include many who have rejected the accepted social model of adulthood. They do not seek full-time employment after graduation, or further training to obtain marketable job skills through the governmental Hello Work schemes. They might be reacting against the traditional career path of the salaryman. Some experts attribute this to the extended economic stagnation during the 1990s, which led to high unemployment among young people (2.13 million by some estimates).Serious_Much wrote:what the hell is a neet? Re: Random Off-Topic
I'm surprised they need a term for them, is slackers not good enough? plenty of them in this country too, mainly because benefits get you more money than minimum wage, stupid government.
I'm not surprised about some people rejecting the views of japan on work and such, there seems to be very much a focus even in early childhood and growing up as simply 'preparation for work' rather than 'preparation for life' (though that's an opinion formed on quite a small basis and obvious stereotyping)
