We all know realism is utterly bogus (least I hope )

If you blocked one sword with another, it most likely would break. If you blocked something with a shield (shields generally being made out of wood), it would break and you'd have to make do with your weapon alone.

I agree being overly concerned with realism is stupid, but concerning yourself with real-esque things such as the speed you can swing a sword then it's probably a little important.

... Serious, no they didn't. Swords, shields, spears and halberds aren't that weak ._.

Anyways, I really question how much hand-to-hand can fit the Souls Series-especially Dark Souls. The very last way I want to fight a dragon or a zombie with is my bare hands (humans, sure)

Actually, olden viking wood shields were made for that; you strike it, getting your weapon caught in the wood. Now the guy with the sheild drops it, and you're weaponless XD
