The backstep does have i-frames but they are few but if you get the hang of knowing the i-frames its actually very useful for getting in a free running R1 id make a video but i dont have the equipment so here i go:
1.As far as i can tell the frames on the backstep are for the duration you are backstepping but you cant just spam it - you only seem to get I-Frames before your feet meet the ground during a backstep.
2.If you get use to it the backstep has HUGE potential for leaving openings on enemies since they cant really roll in time and most people will try to after they realize you just i-framed their attack.
3. DWGR!
4. MiNdGamES.
5. It looks cool.
6.Sadly it is only really useful to fast roll builds since mid rolls have a slower backstep but can still use the i-frames- the reason they are slower is because the recovery times longer.
7.It can also ignore spells that deal damage (WoTG spam met by Claymore running R1)
I dont know all that much about the backstep I-Frames like how many their are, if their is variables in the I-Frames between mid roll backsteps and fast roll backsteps and finally if it is affected badly by latency
EDIT: The I-Frames on the backstep are actaully smaller than i stated, The i frames-seem to be only effectual when you hit the button to backstep the i frames dont last till your feet meet the ground.
EDIT: Props to Maneater_Mildred for this the backstep has hyper armour in addition to I-Frames.
Edit: Props to Stonedtrooper, Backstep has low stamina cost.
