I checked the wiki, and it says you can come back to kill Priscilla later... does that mean the painting becomes 'locked' once you kill her? Just wanting to know what I should avoid doing to not 'lock' the world, if that is possible.

Come back as often as you like. Hell, you can even warp there after you get the Lordvessel. But, you have to leave through the

you can return any time you want to. also after killing priscilla.
there is a npc invasion in the painted world if you are in human form. after killing priscilla the invasion wont happen...

Yeah, you can come back as often as you like. Homeward bone works as normal in the Painted World, actually. In other words it will take you to the last bonfire you rested at, even if it was outside the PW. However, once you rest at the PW bonfire you must leave out the back of the boss area. But, once you leave homeward bone won't send you back into the Painted World, it sends you to the Anor Londo bonfire.
