Best sword to use?

Currently I have the lightning scimitar and the lightning spear, and need better weapons. Which sword does a lot of damage without slowing the character down too much?

Depends. Are you looking for a Str-based sword, a Dex-based sword, or are you gonna stick with Lightning?

balder side sword, it has awesome reach and doesnt drain your stamina that much or maybe barbed sword its a little smaller but it has bleed. bss is better if you take it up to +15 if your a dex build.

what are your stats and/or what stats do you plan to go for?
that information would help in choosing a weapon, or at least allowing us to explain the options along with many of the pros and cons

Edit: All these posts about weapons (mostly for str builds it seems) makes me want to make one... most of my builds aren't str variants, maybe a man-serp srt/fai sunlight blade build, that'd be fun i think

I'm definitely a dex and magic build, with 28 vitality, 19 intelligence, and 19 Dexterity, and strength is 12.

With that build I would say to you try out a magic weapon, it has scaling with DEX and INT. Weapons are up to your preference but depends of your playstyle. I personally like rapiers, but you can also try straight swords or katanas.

You can also put more points in INT to be able to use the Crystal Magic Weapon buff. Be aware you can only use this buff in a non-elemental weapon. So I would say to you make a secondary weapon in normal path to +15. At later levels, with this buff, you will have the damage you need

Tapir, if you want your magic to be useful, focus A LOT on INT now and level it to like 44 (for best sorcery spell) because that's where your damage will come from.

Try and get a magic/enchanted weapon (enchanted preferably) to match the intelligence and you're pretty much set.

At 20 Dex and 14 Str, you could wield an Iaito. You could then either get it to +15 and use Crystal Magic Weapon to buff it, or you could just make it Enchanted/Magic and have it scale with your INT (but not be buffable).

I say, if you are going to cap your DEX at 20 or so and keep upping your INT, then make the Enchanted/Magic weapon (at least for your first playthrough). If you're going to keep them fairly even (not necessarily the same, but close), then maybe use Magic Weapon, Great Magic Weapon all the way through Crystal Magic Weapon once your INT is high enough to cast it.

You could also wield the Balder Side Sword, which is more of a straight sword. But otherwise you could do the same with it (buff it or upgrade it to scale with INT). That you could wield right now, without messing with your stats.

You could make Quelaag's Furysword out of her soul and upgrade it with Demon Titanite. It can't be buffed, but is pretty unique and has a similar moveset to the Scimitar, if you're used to that.

Additionally, you're definitely going to want to snag Velka's Rapier in the painted world, as it's a Dex/Int weapon specifically.

And those are my recommendations, as far as lightweight Dex scaling swords go.

Any 'normal' weapon is upgradable into Enchanted/Magic (Uchigatana, Balder Side Sword, Iaito are all normal weapons that scale well with Dex, but that can be turned Enchanted/Magic to scale with INT).

Johnny's advice is good.

all ^^those^^ end up with an 'A' scaling in INT at +5 enchanted.

however if you can get the moonlight greatsword, that'll always be most powerful INT scaling weapon, with an 'S' rating.

However the greatsword does not scale with DEX

if youre gonna get that much int and if youre into rapiers you sould try velka's rapier, its pretty awesome.

lol i never bothered with velkas so i couldnt recommend it from experience

I have two BSS's. One I'm making into a fire weapon, the other I'm making into a +15 for weapon buffs.
