Opinions on Buffing Weapons Empty Opinions on Buffing Weapons

Post by TehInfamousAmos Mon May 07, 2012 8:52 am

I personally don't mind it... Unless it is on a weapon with an already extremely High AR - eg; Great Scythe - It can dead angle anyway and it only takes two hits to kill pretty much anyone with it.

I only buff weapons when I am fighting naked - for example on my current build I buff either my Murakumo/BSS/Ricards Rapier depending on what I want to do - May I add I have 0 poise, my two rings when using BSS/Ricards are Leo and RTSr - whereas on the Murakumo due to it being a bit slower I use wolf ring, would this be considered cheap by either of you? If I buff my BSS I normally have a Lightning +5/Chaos +5 Ricards Rapier in my back pocket for when my RTSr procs as the wild dash attack hits for about 1k xD

Anyway that was a bit of a digression, Would my style of play using that be considered cheap, also may I add I don't use the TCC when buffing CMW as on that build I only have 25 int.

I want some friendly comments, no flaming guys - everyone has their own views upon the subject and I am interested to see yours!

PS Billy I am going to be fighting naked except for a sack over my ugly face in KoF Tourney - lets say I turn into a major glass cannon at low life - a single r2 from Balder Swag hits like 800 (non counter) about 1000+ with a counter due to my Leo Ring silly and then the Ricards just Wow! 1k damage for the charge attack and for a normal r1 450 dmg

Opinions on Buffing Weapons Empty Re: Opinions on Buffing Weapons

Post by DamageCK Mon May 07, 2012 9:54 am

Here's my take on buffs. A lot of it I've mentioned before, but lets get it all in one post.

First and foremost... THEY ARE LEGIT. Secondly, I'm thoroughly annoyed by them. Here's why:

It's a stupid amount of damage. Effing STUPID. Is it really necessary? Depending on the weapon/buff/talisman combo, you could end up with an AR over a thousand. Really? Over A THOUSAND EFFING DAMAGE? How is that balanced?

The cast time is relatively fast. In this game, any function that results in doing that much damage should take an hour to cast. Period. It should require two PS3's, entering the Mortal Kombat 1 blood code on six different contollers simultaneously, pooping so hard you have to flush twice, and successfully hunting and killing a bear with a Nerf bat while drunk to cast it. Plus, it only works half the time. Then I'm satisfied.

The best counter for buffs is GMB. Okay, cool. Assuming you have a faith build and you also have it attuned, by the time you realize someone is going to buff, toggle to GMB, switch to your talisman if it isn't already out, the buff is already cast. And STILL it's going to take twice as long to cast GMB as it took the baddy to cast the buff. But that doesn't matter 'cause oops... you're dead now.

Your wasting my time, because as a result, I now have to evade for a full minute, thus wasting your time. Also, the only way I can equal your damage is by spamming pyro/miracles/sorcery, spamming BS, or some equally annoying garbage. It's not fun.

Assuming I can successfully avoid every attack WITH LAG for a full sixty seconds, like some kind of god damn magician, even then the odds are just even. You're not in a deficit when your buffs wears off. You've now got your standard weapon, just like I do. So my reward for bobbing an weaving for ever is a regular fight? EFF THAT.

Even if you turtle with the Crest Shield, it still does an effective amount of damage. If you're not using the Crest Shield, you're getting pooped on.

FC will not allow backstabs, which I agree with, but it will alow you to do even more damage with a buffed attack that doesn't even require you to be strategically positioned. WHY?!

Lastly, IT'S NOT A CHALLENGE. Getting three or four hits to connect is not hard, and when that's all it takes to get a win it spoils the whole idea of the "best man wins" mentality. I like to win because I outplayed someone, not because my AR is in the quad digit range.

After having said all that, and as much as I thoroughly HATE buffs, they are admittedly one-hundred-percent legit in this game.

Still hate the **** out of them, though. Hahaha. Done.

Thank you for your opinion silly I found buffs legit in DeS because people would run second chance and chomp on grass all the time and cursed weapon drained your life silly but tbh I just would either run a Maxed Claymore and spread my sticky white stuff all over it or a blessed Mirdan hammer/ my Blueblood sword - with sticky stuff all over it again. basically I found DeS more balanced as a whole - poise kinda ruined the feeling for me - you should stagger whether hit by a giant sword or a tiny one - because you have been stabbed - the DkS feel also ruined it by bringing in DWGR - DeS you had to be under 25% weight for fast roll 40% for med roll and anything above that was Fat as *** roll - also there were certain armors you couldn't roll in etc anyway that was a bit of a tangent.

    Peace

    I hate buffs because:

    1) They change the pace of the game (60 seconds pointless dodging)

    2) I can't use shield + pyro in my off hand

    3) I then usually also need a back up plan for when the buff runs out

But right now i'm in love with the BSS, and that thing needs a little boost... what to do, what to do sad

I think they're fine but wouldn't use them in a duel (although I did once when Eki and I did a duel with our all out set ups).

Right now with my BSS, I'm dueling people without buff, and it's frustrating to hit them 8 times or more and they still not be dead, but i get 2HKO by their BKGA

truthfully I believe buffing is situational, and based on the AR of your weapon, if you have a STR weapon eg DGA - easy to dead angle still hits like 1k - a Buff would be ridiculous to put on that because you would 1hit most people... A BSS meh - it turns a bit OP - I agree that when I get a leo ring counter R2 w/o buff it hits like 400 whereas with a buff it hits about 700 - but generally I don't overuse that thrust - also Wisp BKGA is easy to parry and your weap has a huge reach compared to theirs - both have their weaknesses - Buffs basically turn dex weaps into the perfect weapons - it counters their damage deficiency etc

Buffing weapons is 100% fine, i how ever personally don't use them for 3 reasons,
    1. i hate to feel "rushed" that i have until the buff runs out.
    2. 2-3 shotting people is not fun to me. unless it is 2 parries.
    3. alot of people just turtle till the buff runs out and i hate fighting turtles.

I would much rather someone buff a DGA than a dex weapon. SOOO easy to roll BS whiffs. Like you said, a buff dex weapon is basically the best you could do in the game.

I never understood why buff users would expect anyone not to run away or hit them while they're buffing or turtle or any number of other things. Why the hell would I just trade damage with them? Of course I'm going to do that stuff.
