spears as viable pvp weapon?

Well since I do pve the most I "found" a useful tactic with spears. Their two handed attack has some sort of tracking in it which hits a rolling ninja in Anor Londo about 90% of the time.

Do you guys think that this would work in pvp against fast rollers?

In a duel a long spear can destroy most people, because of the reach and speed of its pokes. In fact, Forest Gankers commonly use the DSS (Dragon Slayer Spear), because it's fast and deals decent damage.

Spears are really OP. They are fast, have huge range, and take advantage of lag to hit you when you aren't anywhere near them. Very frustrating to fight.

I'd have to disagree with you there Reim. They're only as OP as any other weapon, but they require less skill to wield than about anything other than a Zwei. They don't deal enough damage to punish heals, so against multiple enemies they don't work as well.

Nothing works against my amazing Rapier of Awesome.
OT: It is very good. It's long range attacks can be hard to punish because of the spear's fast recovery time. It doesn't deal that much damage, so think of it as a Death of a Thousand Cuts.

are you serious dude, they hit you from 10 feet away from you, it doesnt even matter where you are front or to the side of you, add the leo ring and that makes thems so OP.

spears make it so easy to get the counter, specially if youre turtleing which i hate.

Ha I'm impressed to see how few people know the power of spears. They are easily one of the most overpowered weapons in the game and their so easy to use. I would recommend a spear as a secondary weapon to any dex build out there, but it's ok if you don't like them, not that it bothers me...:roll:

If you want to be SUPER effing annoying, grab a spear. And I mean really really damn annoying. No skill required either, so that's a plus. Just turtle and jab, jab, jab. God I can't stand spears.

Two hand a spear, like the Butterfly, Silver Knight, or Ornsteins Dragonslayer.
Forget everything else.
You can't even parry spears from the range most people attack with them.

Lulzin. I don't use spears like anyone I've seen. I offhand a pike and roll with Quelaags, a BSS, a G. Scythe, or a Murakumo. Having an offhand weapon that is almost impossible to parry, has a longer range than any melee weapon in the game, AND having a main that can hurt like hell if it hits you is a winning combination. Oh, and when RTSR activates...

Anyway, I meant that every weapon is absurdly powerful in skilled hands, but weapons like the Zwei, the MLGS, and spears, don't require as much skill to use effectively as some others. I don't doubt that some players could beat them with their fists, but the people that could do that exist on a separate plane from us mere mortals. However, if you do give them a powerful weapon (or any really, but the effect is more noticeable on some weapons than others), the heavens will tremble at their might.

Spears are the best weapon for PvP,nothing is better...i have checked all them and the best in order are:

1-Demons Spear
2-Moonlight horn
3-Silver knight
4-Pike
5-Dragonslayer

for 125 SL chars...its very important the weight..you need to have the hornet ring for the healing punish.

Spears are only good when used in the right way, i have a spartan build and its main focus is a spear, two handed, youll never catch me turtling happy
