why do you summon phantoms?

Most of us can probably solo almost all the bosses by now, and those who can’t are probably new to the game and will soon be able to do this.
so why are there so many people summoning phantoms? i summon phantoms, not because i need help with the boss fight but because some of the phantoms might coop because they need souls, so i want to help them.
do you summon phantoms? why?

Because I know I can kill the bosses since Ive done them once with an awful build and I dont want to die while Im making a new build. It just annoys me if I make a stupid mistake and die and have do it all again.

I summoned a guy called "LEEEEEERROOOOOOOOY" in Sen´s Fortress yesterday. I just couldn´t help myself.

Well, I have my cosplay builds and some of them can't handle the bosses at the point as smooth as it would go otherwise with a phantom, so that one reason, with more serious builds I simply do it because it's funner with some jolly-cooperation

I don't summon phantoms. Though I appreciate those who summon me no matter their reasons!

I summon for speed run builds. Its a lot of fun when someone invades and see you with starting gear at sens or anor londo, then they get parried for like 50 damage. Even if I die, its still worth to imagine their faces

i summon them for help with pvp at the forest, only one though 2v2 is much more fun than 3v1. sometimes i do this at anor londo and kiln, always summon two though for the four kings fight i cant do that alone.

I would summon assist against the Four Kings, but I can't find any summon signs at the boss fog. SL 132 might be just too high for finding any summons in that place. Oh, how I hate NG+++++ Four Kings...
But at least I have Beatrice...

I summon simply because I enjoy playing with other people. Dark Souls is such a lonely game, it's nice to have company.

Only time I summon now is when I'm bored hosting. So I wait for an invader, bow and drop humanity, summon some random forest farmer and let them fight each other.
Quite fun sometimes too see the summoned one panic and backing towards me for help.

Lordran can be a lonely place. Sometimes, you just need to trek it with a friend... even if your time together is limited. The lonely are often the first to crack, and turn hollow...

To gank with friends.

Usually to PvP when I'm hosting. But, I also summon for Anor Londo, New Londo, Duke's, and Kiln. Often it is for protection from being constantly invaded, but it also makes those harder boss fights easier.

I summon because it just makes the boss a breeze. And the area. BLA1NE helped me out on my no shield character. I didn't even TRY new londo after trying to solo S&O so many times.... I mean, come on! 57 deaths! I was done with not getting help. haha!

I summon peeps for free exp (now that I am a boss).

Generally for help sometimes, even for invaders. Though when I was a newb I summoned for help xD

I didnt realize Bed of Chaos was... difficult, besides dying a lot.
Hit orb on right side... make it over to left (and block in certain directions). and from the middle jump to the right-ish... :|

I would also recon often. But not anymore...
I did find a few signs for BoC, but they disappear FAST.

It's easy with a shield. At least, a good shield. A bad shield? Nuh uh! It'll thwack your shield away and squish you like a BUG! No shield is just.. *sigh* that wasn't as bad as O&S, but it was still really hard.

3 Gankers with full Giants, 12 casts of WotG, Claymores and a good sync as well as voice chat. I eat that for breakfast.
