Astora's Great Sword

I am in a bit of a dillema with this weapon, is it worth upgrading to level 10? the reason why I ask this is that I am sl 65 and would still require 5 more points in my faith skill to weild it. I have just completed Nito and entering Dukes Archives so I am wondering whether or not it is worth to start upgrading now? also the cost of twinkling titanite is expensive too.

Are you talking about artorias great sword? Or Astoras straight sword? I think you mean the astoras straight sword, since it upgrades with twinkling titanite. You can only upgrade it to +5 though.
What weapon are you using now?

The astoran straught sword is only good up to the depths, after that even at +5 it just doesnt give enough damage. It might last through blighttown, I cant remember, but if your using it in Sens your going to be doing very little damage. SO at Nito/archives there is no reason to use it.

I am primarily using Qualaags Fury Sword and The Lightning Spear.

Well the artorias great sword does not require twinkling titanite, it requires demon titanite. its the sword you make from Sif's soul. And it does depend, is it the cursed or uncursed version? It will say in the item description.

hmmm I think I am confusing myself, do I make it from astoras great sword and sifs soul?

Am I right in saying you need a cursed weapon for New Londo ruins? if so any suggestions how to go about this?

You can also use transient curses. You can buy them from the female undead merchant, or use the 6 you can find to clear the area.

There isn’t any astoras great sword. It is artorias great sword, or astoras straight sword.
Artorias great sword is the one you make from Sifs soul

Yes, the giant blacksmith can do it for you. But remember that the stats requirements for the weapon are high. And you still wont be able to block the ghosts, so i suggest just using transient curses. They also drop from the ghosts.

okay, I am at work atm so could you tell me what kind of shards I need to upgrade the longword? and to upgrade the greatsword of artorias? also where is the female undead merchant? and are the transient curses hard to find in New Londo?

You need titanite shards and large titanite shards to upgrade it. And you have to have found the large ember.
The transient curses are easy to find. Have you killed the capra demon boss yet? you have to kill him to access the merchant.

Yes I defeated him a long time ago. Thanks i'll be sure to backtrack there once I have finished Duke's Archives. I think I have the ember, picked up a few on my travels.

You can give the ember to Andre.
After you have defeated the capra demon you go to where the fog gate is and there will be a path down to the left, kill the thieves down there and go inside the tower. After that you just go up the tower and you will find a long "tunnel". Immediately to your right will be the merchant, and if you continue to the left you will open up a shortcut to firelink shrine.

ahh finally managed to get the sword but you were right the stats required for it are still too high for me will need round another 15 points in those stats to weild it and at this point in the game I don't think it's worth it.
I have however bought several transient curses for New Londo, how many would you recommend me buying? and am I true in saying that some ghosts carry cursed swords so I could perhaps kill them and pick up their swords?

Note: you can block the ghosts if you two hand Artorias' sword
