Yes, I swing my DGA, miss, get roll backstabbed. Swing, miss, get roll backstabbed. Over and over again...

DW but I'm trying to DM and I'm not getting anyone. Might as well level up to SL 130 for the cheating hosts.

I got a fair bit in the burg at SL 50 with my DM. Got a couple of ganking BB glitchers too. Boy does everyone hate DMs.

It's sad because that's the only way to not get roll backstabbed. Sad and boring indeed.

By STR weapons do you mean weapons that scale with STR or just big ol' thangs? You can probably avoid an RBS by using a weapon with a wide swing (such as a GS, UGS, BKGA, or CGS) and unlocking. For greataxe and great blunt... I don't know what to tell you. They're hard to hit with for a reason... Consider some AoE spells such as WoG or a well placed Fire Tempest. If you're especially good at unlocked fighting, GCF and GF can punish RBSing if you manage the quick spin. Speaking of fireballs, against an RBSer you might have more luck baiting with spell cancels, then attacking or BSing as they come out of their roll.

Yeah Great Axes and Great Hammers. I know that UGS are harder because of the R1 spamming that's why everyone uses them too. I can't fight without lock on nor do the other gimmicks.

Yeah, I'd say you need a few spells or a fast weapon in your pocket (No, I'm not going to rephrase that). The more difficult alternatives are parry fishing and knowing exactly when to attack so that you don'g get BS'ed. Also, it may seem a bit lame, but backing up against a wall gives you quite an edge, especially when your overall mobility is lower than your opponent's.

I keep a BSS in my back pocket on my DGM build to mix it up. I rarely fight locked on, except when I lock/roll BS. The more you use UG weapons, the more you'll see you're basically forced to play that way. Unless you just spam BS, which gets boring. Huge props to Rant for having stuck with it for so long. I'll typically play the DGM build until I get BS spammed for a handful of consecutive fights, which doesnt take long. Then it's eff this ****. Switch builds.

also another reason why poeple will bs you as soon as they see you with a str weapon is the rep they have, everyone ive seen use a str have done nothing but bs with hornet ring which makes for a cheap and boring fight so everyone automatically thinks youre gonna do the same. i know this because ive message people and asked them why just roll bs me.

Another good point. I know that when I see a Zwei, I assume a hornet BS is coming. Unfortunately, you don't see the other Ultra Great weapons used very often.

even in demons dual kats ext were most popular but at least then str weapons were still very viable. poise killed str weapons.

STR weapons on a guy who looks like your typical douchebag is always a hornet BS, because of their crazy damage.. One of the few things I really think FROM should change to be honest.

People don't use use huge weapons for normal fighting because they're easy to bs when used improperly, and hard to use properly because they're easy to bs. It's kind of a cycle. When I use the DGM I tend to do a lot of poking with the roll R1. It's hard to punish and I can either get a free 500-600 damage, a miss, or a stunlock which is usually their doom.
It's not even so much fighting locked off as knowing when to lock off. With a UGS you need to bait the roll bs with a swing, then lock off, start a second swing, and then turn 180 degrees to hit the opponent who's hopefully now behind you. You need enough poise to take the attack which was supposed to be a bs, as it will almost certainly hit you.
Or you can use a long weapon like the Halberd against those fishers. With some practice and cautious tactics, you can really mess their day up. It's my preferred tactic as a DM.

theres nothing light sending people flying with a one handed forward roll R1 using a meatcleaver or DBS in demons souls. i really think they should remove or tweek how poise works.

Poise is also the only thing that keeps big weapons viable. If it didn't exist like in Demon's, rapiers and daggers would have the same stunlock power as great weapons, and spears would be nearly impossible to fight. Being able to tank a hit while stunlocking the opponent is the biggest advantage to using armor and big weapons.

I wouldn't mind if poise allowed you to tank ONE hit from any weapon. Beyond that you're locked.
Or maybe that's stupid. It's tough to come to a consesus about poise.

Forcing myself to learn to fight unlocked was the only way I was able to start using big weapons successfully.
...and I do very well with it, if I do say so myself.
I medium roll around in Havel's with a lightning Zwei, (sorry, lol). I have never worn the hornet ring, and I only BS flaskers. The unlocked dead angling is absolutely devastating.

I quite enjoyed using my Str build against VeixNia. She sucks, (because she never pvp's and wanted to see how she was) but it was fun because I got to do something other than use my G Halberd. Oh, and she barely knows how to bs. I still would try to punish her by doing lock off and all that stuff. I also killed every invader other than 1 by puttin on the hornet ring really fast. Super cheap, but I was trying to duel.
That being said, DWGR with a str weapon makes me feel like I can just dead angle with my roll DGA allll day.

Well I guess I have to fight without lock on....but I feel ridiculous!!!! I really love the roll R1 of the DGA and my build has 77 poise to stunlock greatsword users. But then roll bs turns off the fun and I have to stay on the defensive side which I hate and fish for a bs instead.

You'll feel like a boss when you start dead-angling. Just don't spam it... But with the DGA, you'll most likely stun them, and then they're done. And keep pyromancy as a back up. Get them close to you in your little corner. It's not defensive.
It's strategic.
