Crossbow Question

Hi I'm new to the forum and just had a quick question. I'm doing a crossbow only run and just wanted to know if they could be ascended to chaos. I read on one post that a light crossbow could be ascended to the chaos path but the wiki is telling me that the large crossbow can't. Just wanted to know if this extended to all of them as well.

go with +15 its better than elemental and im pretty sure you can only do fire but since theres no fire bolts theres no point in it.

I actually don't know the difference between elemental and normal path for crossbows or even bows, but since crossbows does not have any scaling, all you need are stats to use it and then you can upgrade to +15 much like black knight weapons or drake sword.

I think (I THINK) that if you go chaos, it will reduce its damage for the simple reason that shields don't upgrade stability if fire, magic, lightning path

Ah I see. So I'll just try making all the different types of heavy crossbows and do some testing then. Thanks, you've both been a lot of help.

You upgrade to go with the bolts you're using, just like you do with the bow. So the only element if you're going elemental is lightning.

Side note: Chaos composite bow + fire arrows = you win

crossbows cannot be chaos, enchanted, or occult, as these upgrade paths depend on scaling and the cross bow has none (and chaos would add humanity scaling to an already strong weapon, hence why no chaos avelyn,) fire+10, magic+10, divine+10 all work though... but as has been stated +15 is best due to there beiung no damage/defense split.

Even with Lightning Bolts, a +5 Lightning Light Crossbow is beaten by a +15 with Heavy Bolts. Just take it +15.

And I just finished testing out the new +10 fire light crossbow too. Even though it may be less damaging in pvp it does do more than +15 in pve. Thanks for the help guys, and I'm going to try out that chaos composite bow now, seems like it'd be very fun for a bow run in ng++

What were you testing it on? I used the full lightning set (bolts and crossbow) on a basic PW hollow and it only did like 10 more damage then a +15 with heavy bolts, and on any other monster it should do less damage.

My personal preference is a Fire Heavy Crossbow +10 using Heavy Bolts.

Limited use in PvP, but I have been able to kill a couple of guys with it.

I cannot imagine winning against the Four Kings using only a crossbow.

Most PvE characters, though, die in one hit (even in NG+)

I prefer divine Avelyn +10 with lightning bolts. It's fun to do 3 different types of dmg
