    Description of Strong Magic shield always makes me laugh.

    Anyways, building a 'magic swordsman of vinheim'. Build will feature sorceries that are non-direct damage, so buff/utility spells only. Eventually will get an int of 18 to use the Oocalile (sp?) catalyst. The one that's not stat dependant.

    Weapon/shield/armour will likely be light, as I will be going for a 16ATT likely, 18 int, rest into vit/str/dex/end. Weapons will be non elemental as the point is to buff them. Sucks you can't buff your weapon and shield at the same time.

    So, my question really is: What sort of armour would be somewhat correct according to dark souls cannon, if any? Looking to shy away from heavy armour if possible; doesn't really fit for me. Medium armour at most.

    Black sorcerer gear? I really don't know. Ideas people?

    A mix of cloth and mid armor, so Maybe elite knight chest for it's class, and then eastern since it's light and has poise.

    The goal is more about feel and looks than effectiveness. As long as the armour looks cool, and the weapon fits, open to suggestions! Armour I'm not happy with, but I have to fool around with it until its where I want it.

    I think Med. roll is fine (I know I have to play around with it to get that). The other thing that bugs me is that I need 2 catalysts if I want to use magic shield, and I can't use both magic shield and magic weapon at the same time. Boo.

    I don't feel going for Crystal magic weapon is worth the 7 points I need in Int; thoughts?

    Lingering just seems to fit with someone that uses buffs for their magic weapon/shield. I could just get the Greater magic shield buff, and use a lightning weapon, but it doesn't seem very fluffy.

    All in all, I like the concept of this build so far, but not happy about how badly inefficient it is. Any suggestions are welcome!

    Wolf ring. It'll lighten you up immensely when you can use mid and lighter gear, and it also saves you from the stamina penalty.

    Next, menu swap. Have some back up gear, and keep something for range like a crossbow.

    Very good suggestions, thanks Cloudyeki. Here's a rep! I'll use a composite bow instead, as I have the STR/DEX to make it good. I'll buff my shield I think, as I really want to try Effigy shield with that buff; see if it throws people off their game, and see what kind of stamina drain I get blocking some big weapons. Might swap it out for something with a higher stability later on.

    Edit: cant' give you a rep for some reason. Only so many a day?

    Double post.

    I think this build will force me to think/play inventively; such as fog ring + hidden body + poison bow or Dragonbow then hide again. Looking forward to it! Lets see what I learn..

    Ok, so somewhat of an update.

    Just about to enter Sen's Fortress, SL32.

    Gear is: Longsword, Balder Shield, and an odd collection of armour.

    The magic weapon is disappointing to say the least. I have a Magic Adjustment of 112 with a Sorceror Catalyst, and with a longsword vs. an Infested Barbarian the sword did an extra 20 damage with an R1, 1H sweep. Not significant I feel, and it costs weight (2lbs for the catalyst) and it costs stat investment, plus it costs time to cast the spell. Perhaps changing the weapon to something that can spam R1 faster would be a better way to go; Scimitar perhaps, or Bandit dagger.

    Current stats are:
    14 Vit, 12 att, 14 end, 12 STR, 20dex, 12 int, rest base for a Wanderer.

    Any suggestions on weapon combination?

    I always make sure I have a +10 or close to +10 weapon when going to sens. Also turn back and go to the Asylum and get the rusted ring, and then go kill then hydra in Darkroot Garden. Then you'll find Dusk, buy the Oolacile catalyst from her. Now you are ready to go to sens. After getting the serpent ring farm the BSS when you reach the top of the fortress' bonfire.

    It looked like I need a 18 Int to use the Catalyst. But looking it up on the Wiki here:

    It shows it only needs a 12. Wonder if someone can update the chart? I have enough Int to use it, yay.

    Will definitely go get it. Was thinking that I needed an 18int, and didn't want to invest that much in it.

    Yeah, you'll need 15 Int for GMW though, it will be vert useful against O&S.

    You need 12 to use the catalyst, not 18. And 15 to use great magic weapon. 15 is perfect Hurrah

    @Amos:
    I'd put the Int down to 15 from 18; only reason I thought I needed 18 was to use the Ooc catalyst.

    Homing Soulmass I wouldn't want to use; only buffs to fit with the concept of the character.

    But the rest is pretty close to the stats I want. The weapon I'm not sure about. I feel like something that can spam attacks would be better for a buff build; the BSS is great, and I have 2 already, but not sure it's the way I want to go. Must meditate on this.
