I always kill him after the goyals, reason is it is much easier, all you have to do is attack him til he stands, and either sparta kick him off the edge, let him roll backwards off the edge, or wack him off. I have fought im before then, and it was more difficult then expected due to his attacks sneaking around your shield.
PS two hits with a zwei when he is in firelink (heavy zwei attack) knocks him right off.

If you want to. Papa is correct though, waiting until he is in Firelink is the easiest way to kill him without the invasion.
Laurtec and I both understand the evils of the fires, so some playthrough I just allow him to murder the firekeeper and live his life as an assistant in bringing forth the Age of Dark

The only thing is that if you kill him in the church or at firelink, you wont get his armor in Anor Londo. I killed him in my recent play through at the church and the armor was not in Anor Londo.

If you're new to the game you shouldn't as it's part of what should happen your first playthrough. Also keep in mind that if you kill him early you will lose the humanity you get from killing him in his world and you will not be able to get his armor.

I didnt on my first playthrough, didnt use a guide at all. Knew he was bad news but had no idea. Was pissed when he killed the firekeeper, had no idea where to go to find him at first. Since then, i just kill him. The fight in anor londo is a pain in the butt for me. 3 on 1, totally bonk. Not like i need more then one set of his armor anyway.

I went ahead and killed him one time in NG+ (before he kills the firekeeper)...doesn't really change a lot about the gameplay other than you don't lose your ability to use Firelink Shrine temporarily, so I figured why not.
