Greataxe - Anyone use it?

Been trying to use this in PvP and... it sucks.

The only thing I can use it for it seems is BSing, and riposting. It's attacks are so short range and slow, that I can't really make it effective.

Occasionally, I can get someone silly to trade blows and spam R1 them to death, but it's parryable, and limited.

Anyone have success with this weapon? I want to love it, I really do, but I just lose with it too often.

Kick, and it's R1 becomes usable.
Otherwise, it's a reactive weapon, not a controlling weapon.

Reactive? As in, gamma rays? As in, super powers?

you can use it effectively if you get enough practice, the rolling attack is pretty good for dead angling but i would suggest having a back up weapons that's fast so that it throws off your opponent's timing, i have something similar to this http://tinyurl.com/8zcbtsb and it works pretty good for me.

I actually see the same great axe phantom/shade thing in the burg all the time. I think your better of using it purely as a counter attack weapon, or buff it with HW and scare the crap outta people.

althe greataxes show as the greataxe when you see the ghost thing, most of the time its a bkga ans rarely is it a greataxe.

Sorry, what buff is HW? Drawing a blank. Normal buffs are GMW, CMW, DMB, SLB, or a resin. If it's from teh DLC don't tell me.

Edit: I'm just going to ignore that Rynn, and continue to believe it grants my character super powers and/or radiation sickness. Now if only they'd add a cape to the Balder armour...

Hidden Weapon.

This weapon is actually great; Its not an aggressive weapon to be used offensively, as it has close range.
Use poison throwing knives to pressure your opponent into making rushed decisions, keep a ranged weapon in your back pocket to pressure them further when they are out of range, and keep them in narrow spaces, or corner them whenever possible. Parrying is a must, however using your jumping attack or perhaps the backstep-r1 is good for meta games; yes it leaves you open, so be prepared to roll.

I wouldn't recommend this strategy against very experienced players, stick to using it for fun. In a more experienced battle, it seems best placed as a secondary weapon to be used to throw off your enemy. try using it with balder side sword or perhaps a ranged weapon.

Everyone forgets that theirs more to PvP then the actual fight. Psychological fighting is something I'm pioneering in dark souls, be it through stacking resistances to scare off elemental gouges or using uncommon spells to surprise players.

Great scythe+HW+no offhand weapon or shield.

And how do you use it? Reactive, attempting to trade blows? Combined with other weapons, forcing people to come to you, and then being reactive again? Being reactive enough that your body mutates into giving you super human powers?

I killed an invader with the Greataxe the other night. I have to say, I felt pretty good about smashing the red flipper into the ground, especially because I've hardly used the thing.

I turned my back to him, did the 2H R2 attack, and as he went for the back stab, I whipped around and crushed him. I finished him off as he tried to flip away.

Pretty satisfying.

I seldom see this weapon in PVP and when I do, it's only for back stabbing -_-

That's because you're obviously a rather boring person who insists on using a dex weapon just like everyone else!

Seriously though, its not that great for pvp... but when you're up against an army of lagstabbers (they still exist apparently :x) or fast-roll-wolf-ring-washing-pole gankers, your weapon barely matters anyway.

Also Cal, I find its really good for PvE. I'm on NG+7 and it still 1-shots most normal enemies, whereas i'd need 3-4 hits from a fast weapon (I know this is a pvp thread but given how the greataxe is my very favourite weapon ever, i'm honourbound to defend it).

Yeah, just a personal preference. I know it's a one-shottin' SOHMbitch. I have it maxed out in the Chaos, Divine, and Occult paths on my main, but I only used the Divine one a little bit way back and I'm not sure I ever used the other ones.

Try the DGA instead. Better range and AR, same moveset I think. Very high weight though.

What you try to do, is be defensive with the weapon. Dont be afraid to use the 2h block to allow for a quick deadly return. And make good use of the jumping R2 attack. The roll R1 is only good if you can dead angle, but its real strength is with countering your opponents attacks. I rarely use this weapon to back stab.

I stunlocked another player to death with its R1 2-handed. I'm just wondering if other players have been able to do the same or if my opponent was simply horrible.

I get a decent amount of wins with my Great Axe build, it is just when i face someone with DWGR that realizes i'm decent with it and decides to do absolutely nothing but fish for a roll bs that i will lose. Even then, ive gotten pretty good at unlocking and punishing roll bs attempts. If someone is good enough though, there really isn't anything you can do, that is one of my issues with roll bs in certain situations there really is nothing you can do. That is why i agree with rant that having a alt weapon that is faster is pretty much mandatory.

-roll R1, dead angle/stagger them,followed by R1 combo.
-unlock and try to punish attacks, you press R1 and before the swing starts push in the direction they are going to be. Takes practice.
-the R1 is faster then people give it credit for, people often underestimate it.



Here's my build, http://tinyurl.com/9f97k9g .The Great Scythe is an amazing pair with it. Unless they are a roll bs fisher i use the Great Axe the majority of the fight and do my best not to go for backstabs. Like someone mentioned, stunlocking someone with the Great Axe is extremely satisfying.
