First of, as you probably know, you need to be human. The best way to co-op with a friend is to (obviously) go to the same location and put down the sign each 10-15 seconds, and some times just leave it there for just a bit longer. If it does not work, restarting the game usually fixes things like that. And just pointing out, if you're in the New Londo Ruins you've got to have drained the water to co-op there.

Pick a spot a little out of the way to place your signs, so you will not be summoned by others. A corrner, not near a bonfire. Also, I'm sure you looked this up already, but you have to be within the correct level range (+/- 10% and 10 levels).

One trick ive learned over the years is to place a orange soapstone and get the Phantom to leave the game and rejoin till they can see that one summon sigh. This changes your server until your on your friends server. On Xbox you can also use the "join in progress" to auto select your server to your friends. Another thing is to place your sign in abnormal areas. Lastly if you find yourself or a friend being summoned too many times by other players, dress like a nub. Use drake sword, chainmail, and knight shield normaly works for me when I wanna be a nub.

Np, i didn't know about the new londo ruins stuff until recently myself, me and my friend wasted about 1h trying to summon eachother. As for your latest post, i'm not quite sure what you're asking for, but i'll give it a try hoping that i give you the answer you need. The one that wants to be host should not put down a sign, but the one that wishes to join the hosts world should. If you're doing co-op together and you want to finish both of your worlds together you can both put down a sign, and the one that sees the others sign first gets to be the host first, though that's only of any use if both need help with the same area. To summon the boss in the area must be alive(if you didn't know), that's the only advice is see left to give. So follow all the advice you've gotten so far by me and everyone else and keep trying. Cause sometimes it just takes a **** ton of time.

Here's just all the advice summed up:

The host must be human. Renew your sign every 10-15 seconds until the other player sees it. Do it somewhere where others are not likely to see it. Optionally you could also use **** equipment to have people less likely interested in summoning you. Restart the game if you can't see eachother for too long. Boss must be alive at the time of the summon. Be patient. If both of you needs to finish of the boss, try putting down the sign both of you.

Edit: Sorry if i somehow missed someones advice. Oh, and pantha, that join player in progress function does not work for Dks.
