Did my fav presidential candidate running in an election I only mildly care about won?

    Is Barak back?

I had a betting ring going on my Democrat Representative taking the election with a solid voting base in California.....I hope I won both bets as that would net me about $200.

From what I've been told, yes, he'll be back for a second term as President.

Last i checked it was at 275 to 201 to Obama. In addition he was favourite to win many of the still undecided seats.

Now that all this election business is out of the way I really think it's time we get down to addressing the really important issues. I'm not entirely sure why this is brought up so rarely, but I for one would like to see it get more attention during this term.

In all seriousness I'm extremely pleased by this whole thing. See I require specialized medical treatments, without which I would most likely be a dead man in the near future. The continuation of medicaid essentially means I get to continue living. I have to say I'm pretty happy about that.

Well I also consider this turn of events to be rather positive.....people may or may know thing but Im not a big fan of Democracy simply because I dont believe that having two different groups with different agendas constantly exchanging positions of power can get anything done......nor do I think a president could ever get anything done properly should they only have one term in office....

Anywho plastic Im glad that you getting that med care. Us disaster survivors have to stick together big grin

The problem, IMO, isn't with democracy, at least not the way democracy is supposed to work, but is with our two party system. See what we should do is grant emergency powers to the supreme chancellor....I digress. Seriously though, the issue is that, due to a lot of things including an increasingly biased and aggressive media, we've come to see each other more and more as enemies. That's never how our system was supposed to work. It was supposed to be two sides of the same coin discussing the issues and trying to figure out what approaches work the best for everyone. I had a conversation with a professor yesterday who made a point that I have to say I really enjoyed. He said that instead of constantly using a metaphor of battle to describe the state of our politics, because battle implies an enemy, we should start using the term dance instead, because dancing just implies a partner. If as a country we just slowly changed the connotative atmosphere of how the whole system works, I think eventually we'd be getting along again and our system might have a chance to work for everyone.

I agree with that wholeheartedly Plastic. Did you see the Governor of New Jersey got blasted for daring to say that he thought President Obama did a good job following up with the area for disaster relief? It was seriously accused that he was turning his back on his support of Romney. I was like WTF? Come one.....same team guys

I'll repeat more or less what I said on another forum this a.m. which was that I felt a sense of relief that Mr. Obama had won the election because there are a lot of people in America who cannot afford to have medical treatment or are disadvantaged in other ways and I think Obama was trying to do something about this. I also expressed disbelief that one of the richest countries in the world does not have something like our Health Service in the U.K. It may not be perfect but when the chips are down it delivers. I know this because my husband was seriously ill for seven years and no way would we have been able to afford to pay for the treatment he receive which eventually saved his life. I hope all goes well for you Plastic.

Exactly. As a country we've started to hate each other simply because we're in different parties. Views don't even necessarily have to come into it, even when it's clearly something that's good for everyone, like disaster relief. It just doesn't make any sense. We just need to start talking to each other again. When it comes down to it all anyone wants is the opportunity to be as comfortable and happy as possible. I see problems with that being created on both sides, obviously because I'm a liberal I see it more on the conservative side, but part of fixing this is recognizing the problems your party creates also. The nice thing is our generation will have the opportunity to create a new political atmosphere in the relatively near future. We just have to be smart enough and understanding enough to do that.

Thanks Slake. As long as I'm able to continue receiving my medications, at least for as long as I need them, I should be fine. I also believe that Obama was the better man for this job, and also find it extremely hard to swallow that as a country we can't just accept that health care shouldn't really be a business. Health definitely comes into the whole pursuit of happiness thing.

The entire state of reactionary politics in our country is a bit much.

Last night on facebook I was hearing a lot of different people, on both sides, propose that we simply allow the blue states to have Obama, while the red states can have Romney. I'm pretty sure something like that happened once before. Now when was that....

If they don't like Obama, England would be a terrible choice of country to move to. They got way less freedoms than Americans. And there isn't any such thing as freedom of speech in England. Arresting people for trolling on the internet, really? They might find themselves in jail for free speech rights they took for granted in the USA. I say things on the internet and in public on a regular basis that would get me thrown in jail if I was in England.

With the re-election of Obama, extremism in America is going to skyrocket. People will no longer be confident in the party that was the closest thing to representation they thought they had. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if a 3rd party starts getting more popular.

Politically I'm closest to Ron Paul, and Romney is nearly as far away from that politically as Obama is. I was joking about quitting my job and getting in line with the rest of the free loaders squatting. Because such a system is unsustainable if they tax all the rich people to the point where they pack their bags and leave, then the taxes have to be pushed on the middle class. When that happens, the ones working start to feel like they are the idiots for working and start to hop in line with the rest of the squatters. And that really sucks. because I feel like that is the direction America is going.
