In all seriousness though, I have faith that FROM and the new director can make Dark Souls 2 a great game. We'll just have to wait and see an actual gameplay trailer I guess.

I am really concerned about the quote "we want the Skyrim audience". I view The Elder Scrolls as a perfect example of everything wrong with the mainstream fantasy genre. I own Oblivion and played Skyrim and like neither. Those who like Scrolls can just play Scrolls. Leave our Souls alone!

That sounds like good ol' FROM. Stealing peoples souls/minds from other games is their specialty.

The Video editing is "decent".
The music is absolute crap. I just muted it and played something along the lines of Waka Laka, which would be a more suitable song.

Dubsteb is not my thing but that vid was hilarious. I still think DkS 2 is gonna be agreat game, but I anticipate it to be not as good as DkS.
I agree with you though, I don't DkS 2 to be for the Skyrim audience.
No love for Skyrim or Oblivion from me but I tell you: Go play Morrowind and tell me it's a bad gameAcarnatia wrote:I am really concerned about the quote "we want the Skyrim audience". Sup, Bro. Played Morrowind. That game was absolutely cra--...
Yeah. Loved it. Disliked Skyrim though. The Combat system is aged and not as great. Morrowind with Custom Class creation was wonderful.

Re: The ACTUAL Dark Souls 2 trailer
I still have plenty of hope for Dark Souls 2. I'm just concerned about that quote, just as many players were over the term 'accessibility'. I may be misinterpreting the meaning of that sentence. I hope so.
And to Proxy; the music was supposed to be crap. That's pretty blatantly part of why the creator chose that music-to reflect what altering the game too much to appeal to a wider audience can potentially do to it.

Lol. Best part is when he uppercuts Sif in the chin and kills him. I had to laugh out loud at that part.

No offense but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And the same goes for music. Skrillex has a large following and any student of musical theory/mechanics can see why his work is innovative and novel. It may not suit you, but it's just as offensive for you to call his work crap as it would be for someone to call your beloved Demon's Souls and Dark Souls crap. I find as much beauty in Skrillex's work as I do in John Coltrane's, Sonny Rollins', Grover Washington Jr.'s, and many others from almost all genres.

I'm with Coma on this one. I tend to think that most people are too closed minded to it to realize how complex and creative it is. It still falls under the category of art. I like it just as much as I like listening to classical music, hip hop, country, epic music, and so on.

Indeed. In terms of its sophistication in composition, it's right up there with epics used in things like LOTR, classical pieces from ages past, and jazz improv sets. The disharmonic nature of huge segments of the tracks are intentionally contrasted with the briefly melodic/harmonic segments that are interspersed throughout. The reason for this is that the disharmonic segments generate a great deal of tension, which is then built up to a high point before being released in a harmonic segment. It's the same fundamental principle at work as that in sex, stress, and solid narrative writing.
For more info, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dramatic_structure
I'm not even a student of music/drama/literature, so I'm sure anyone here who has taken music theory/composition will have a better understanding of the subtle mechanics involved with these kinds of tracks than I, and probably can explain it much better as well. With such a diverse community here, I'm sure there must be some writers, musicians, and other artists here that can vouch for the view I have expressed.
I can understand the impulse to judge new/different types of music so harshly though. I used to hate hip hop when I was younger, until I learned to appreciate what was new, different, and innovative about it. The same goes for heavy metal, bubble gum pop, tribal music, and anything else in between. That being said, any genre has its share of lesser and greater performers/composers, so it's no reason to judge the whole genre by one artist.
Speaking of art, here's some Dark Souls tribute music (with video). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9D2mvoMKLE
If you're A.D.D. like I am, the lyrics start at 1:00.

What a coincidence. I'm an alcoholic, a pot head, and I love milk. You and I must have been soul mates in a previous life.

The idea of soulmates is that they are meant to go together in very incarnation-mates of the soul, not just body. Aaanyways...
