What's great about it is that it does pure magic damage, instead of hybrid magic & physical. If there's split damage, the enemies armor is applied twice: his physical armor on the physical damage and his magic resistance on the magic damage. That's a great disadvantage of magic, enchanted, divine and occult weapons. The MLGS is great for int builds because it only does magic damage. (provided you have the strength to wield it)

Not to mention that it has an S scaling in INT when upgraded!

Right on, but don't forget about the R2 attacks. Both 1 and 2-handed R2s swing the weapon vertically & horizontally respectively and send out a magical shockwave. The 2-handed R2 also has an aoe explosion sort of like emit force. I believe it's designed for ganking and griefing, mainly ( lol! -- but not really). I've very rarely seen it used by someone who wasn't clearly camping with a friend in one of the typical ganking spots. It's obviously pretty easy to avoid in most 1v1 situations. Though it can be annoying -- the durability usage is less than most of the other special R2 attacks, so the R2 spam can keep you dodging at a distance for a while.

Also it increases magic defense by 40 points, which is often a problem for mages. The R1 spam is pretty sweet (or annoying) it has good range, decent swing speed for the size (it's weight is only 6.0) and can stun-lock. In fact, as I recall the one guy who got me 1v1 with the moonlight greatsword did all the damage with 2 sessions of R1 spam (managed a toggle excape the first time -- but died before I could on the second go 'round :x ).

Finally, it looks pretty cool -- other than that it totally sucks.

PS -- I never had use for/liked it myself. But, lalliman's reminder about the pure magic damage and writing my own post talked me into it. Unfortunately; I just remembered I killed Seath on my int build w/o cutting his tail off. Look Skyward

edit: nevermind -- it's in my inventory silly thanks to a phantom Praise the Sun
