Tail of the Centipede Demon

So I'm fighting the Centipede Demon in NG+ and I cut off his tail without getting Orange Charred Ring. I start to wonder why, and then... THE DAMN TAIL ATTACKS ME! Writhing on the ground like a worm cut in two. I had to hit the tail once more to kill it, then I got the ring.

I didn't know this was possible, and I haven't heard of it before. Just checked the Wiki and I didn't see any mention of this. Any one else seen this?

This always happens to me, but I hit the arm like thing, not the tail. Not sure if they are the same but it always takes one extra wack to kill it after its been chopped off.

I think this is the sixth or seventh time I've fought this boss and this is the first time I've ever seen it...

I have fought him a lot in pvp with heavy weapons, maybe that is what makes the difference, with BKGA or a Claymore it always needs that extra hit when its down, I dont recall when I had my lightening itaio if it needed an extra hit, but that was my first time fighting him and I think some white phantom might have knocked it off for me.

Maybe it's dependant on the weapon type.

That makes sense, as it was the first time cutting it off with a Murakumo. I usually use lighter dex weapons.

wow i didnt know you could cut of his tail... you get the ring by killing him so whats the point lol - open for invasions? take ring, die and go to lost izaleth?

haha, I dont know how you can manage to kill him without removing his limb and getting that ring, props to you! I couldnt even beat him in my first play through until I got that ring and could run up to him. I have fought him maybe.. 7 or so times since and every time his tail/arm comes off before I can kill him, it just makes the battle easier too, because he can't do that long distance attack or that sweeping attack with his arm.

Its supossed to get the ring and put it in battle agaisnt him

i just dodged his arm/tail/genitalia/whateveritis and smacked on it...
no wonder i never liked the boss
