Here's a Review of Dark Souls.

I saw that before. That guy played like an idiot. I watched a bit of his walkthrough too. He raged when he found out he couldn't wield the DKGA because of its 50 Strength requirement, he had to shoot like 2,000 arrows into the Hellkite's tail because he didn't have the DEX to properly wield a bow, and he outright refused to ever repair his equipment so when his Drake Sword broke in bottom Blighttown he quit playing.

As far as I'm concerned, a player like that doesn't deserve Dark Souls.

It's funny because when he talks about what he liked about the game, he sounds so informative. Then it completely degrades into "It didn't hold my hand!"

When earlier he was praising it for not holding his hand.

IIRC he said he liked fighting the bosses, just that he didn't like dying to the game's run-of-the-mill mobs.

"These normal enemies have a lot of variety I normally don't see in RPG's."

"I hate fighting these common generic enemies."

Oh brother! Dark Souls isn't THAT hard. It doesn't require quick reflexes or marathon button combos like the hard games of yore. The difficulty lies solely on patience, caution, and paying attention, which consequently are the bane of the modern gamer.

Why do game critics think that they are supposed to be opinionated? I am not watching a review to get some random guys opinion, I just want to know the facts of what the game offers. I'll form my own opinion!

This guys review can be summed up like this:

Dark Souls is a game that requires you too use the better parts of your mind, like restraint, observance, and decision making, rather than wholly shutting your mind off and ingesting unhealthy amounts of digital junk food, and so I didn't like it. You might, but I don't.





Thanks for posting though, it gave me a reason to air my disdain for gaming journalist.

When this chunky dope talks about how he is a casual gamer and doesn't have the time to invest in Dark Souls, what I hear him saying is that he refuses to spend time thinking. He doesn't play games to think, after all!

You might be interested in Total Biscuit Big.

He tries to just focus on the facts when he can, and when he states and opinion he does state its just an opinion and that it isn't a bad feature, merely he doesn't enjoy that type of thing. He'll usually even say, "If you enjoy games with X features and don't mind Y, you might want to pick this up."

I will look him up, and if he is as you say, I will stick to his reviews in the future.

I thought about writing reviews on a blog or something, and I would have had the time for at least half of last year, but I was too busy playing the game. I won't have time for that anymore.

Look at the Dark Souls reviews on metacritic. The best, I mean funniest, one simply reads, "I hate this game. I want my F***ing money back." Unfortunately I can't find it again.

Also, this one baffles me.

I've played this game twice without patches on PS3 and never had the problems he listed.

Now that I helped the derailment, I'll put this back on track.

Nevermind, I answered the question myself. I have actually seen his review for DKS, and I think a few other games. Very professional. Now I remember his name for future games that interest me.

Modern games are making this generation of gamers quite complacent, and with their complacency they require a certain amount of hand holding and dislike games that require too much of an investment to enjoy.

Which is a fair point, but it's sad how complacent gamers have become
