Mask Speculation

So I'm currently playing through Dark Souls again, and on my way through The Painted World, I started to realize something looked a bit familiar. This is the statue that sits in the courtyard surrounded by Phalanx. Now, I can see the markings aren't really the same, but the masks themselves do. Anybody have any information on this statue, or can maybe possibly get a better shot of it? Something else of concern is what appears to be a child draped in the figures cloak.


Anyways, suppose there's any connection? The painted world is the only wintery location in Dark Souls, and the trailer for Dark Souls II seems to showcase more wintery areas.

the statue is just weather beaten, it still has a nose and mouth if you look closely.

Both "masks/faces" have eyes. Very similar.

It's just that everything between the two games will probably follow this trend.

Everything will feel both 'familiar', but 'different'. They're setting it in the same universe, but in a different time and place so I think there will be a lot of overlap between the two games in terms of art style and enemy similarity, similar to the way elder scrolls changes but seems similar in everything.

I agree they look similar. That's because they're both carved from rock.

The statue has still got a nose and a mouth, although the weather has made them faint. Furthermore, it is unlikely that something as insignificant as a statue would be connected to something that is as important as what may well become a main enemy in DkSII.

Haha, yeah luckily i played dks first, but demons was totally ripped off with a load of the bosses, enemies and even levels were taken...

My favourite was stuff like the armour spider and the maneaters, lol

Those masks actually really look like the mask in the crystaline armor set fron rhe archives - without the crystals though.

What, really?! I'm going to look at that now.

I'm just hoping we have more mask options than those horrendous Family Masks we got now. The look of the Porcelain Mask was a sign in a good direction imo.
