Camping the ladder in Sen's
Anyone know how to deal with this situation? I jumped down into the pit to fight the titanite demons when I got invaded. Darkwraith jumped into the pit and climbed to the top of the stairs and just waited there, clearly with the intention of kicking/Force/WoG me off (fatal fall distance) if I climbed up. I decided to not give him the satisfaction of killing me so I killed myself with dung pies. Is there a trick to surviving in this case?

Fall Countrol, if you're feeling lazy and have a Int based build.

Not really, not if his timing is good.

Wouldn't you just be able to put it on before you climb?

Out-wait him? Invaders typically can't be as patient as hosts since the hosts always have the option of disconnecting themselves.

Put what on? Fall control? Well for one I never have that thing attuned, and secondly it doesn't save you from fatal fall distance (I've tried).

I agree with LunarFog. Wait him out. Set up camp and the DW will either leave or come down for a fight.

Yep. Wait or disconnect. Maybe shoot some arrows at him to annoy him?

When an invader playes the waiting game I just hit PS and select quit game. Works like a charm every time. It's much better then suicide by dung pie. Suiciding still gives the invader humanity, but disconnections causes you to not lose anything and prevents the invader from gaining humanity and souls.

Re: Camping the ladder in Sen's
When that happens to me I climb to near top(stay to where you can't get hit), I taunt them with punches and showing my head for a second or two, they usually become reckless our bored.
One I waited for a guy and kept baiting him to swing, he eventually started menu swapping for different weapons to try to hit me, I BSed him off.
Another time someone used the R2 of the DGGS and fell down on his own, before the attack went through. XD
And another time still, I just climbed all the way up(he was melee) and landed a riposte on his first swing, lucky too, he had SLB on his 2 handed Zweihander.
Patience is the best way. Quit if you have too, but never suicide.

Re: Camping the ladder in Sen's
I agree on avoiding suicide. They enjoy that. I should know, I've done waiting game trolling on forest gankers and then bragged about it in the Glory For Alvina thread when they suicided. If you can see the invader and have them....arrows. Fire arrows are the most funny because they're so visible they'll know what's up immediately and the arc is wonderful on fire.
I have also done the wait just outside of spell range before and do the punch taunt.
Sending a PM is pretty good too. Hopefully they understand your language though. Personally I would say something like, "I hope you brought your rusted iron ring because if you want a battle it's gonna be down here." Maybe add, "while I'm waiting for you, just know that I did come prepared for this. My book, sandwich and I will be awaiting an increase in your level of bravery good sir/madam."
You can drop a few items on the ground and run off, perhaps they might think you're trying for a truce and there's lots of good hiding spots down there to set up a sneak attack.

Re: Camping the ladder in Sen's
^ Unfortunately they love messages like that. Once my room mate got someone that kept hiding somewhere. My roomate called him a chicken, and the invader just sent hatemail. Also, once my roomate disconnected because the invader refused to fight, and my roomate got a message from the invader calling him a chicken.
He was like, "LOL Wut?"

Don't disconnect. Thats ragequitting.
Dark souls is a game meant to be harsh. Invaders were intended to use any means necessary to defeat their opponent. Creates another obstacle to complete your quest.
There is a way around any tactic. I wouldn't even go down by the ladder at the chance of an invasion.

I agree with you that disconnecting is bad practice. Few things are more annoying than when a host disconnects when I invade (especially if he tries to gank and only disconnects after his gank buddies are defeated). However, I doubt generalizations like "there is a way around any tactic" are true. I think I just described a situation where there isn't any good way around (assuming the camper isn't a total idiot). There's only one way back up from the pit and against any half-decent invader it's suicide. Climb up, get knocked off with WoG. Fortunately, at least I was in a spot where I could easily retrieve my bloodstain after suiciding.

I would upvote, but I already spent my 2 votes. Can we get rollover votes?

Re: Camping the ladder in Sen's
By the way thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It seems like I was in a situation where I just had to wait (and maybe taunt), and I didn't really mind suiciding since I'd rather lose the 1 humanity than waste a lot of time.

Disconnecting would've been better. It doesn't take long and doesn't give the invader that one precious humanity. The only thing invaders want is that precious humanity. Don't give it to them. They don't deserve it if they only run and hide.

Act like you are doing something. If there are still enemies, go and fight them and make it last. The invader will either DC because he knows you are busy, or try and take advantage of the fact that you are occupied and attack. Then he has to come down. I usually try to act like I am occupied if I want to lure an invader.

Just run through the level and ignore him, that tends to get the attention of invaders. Or just use magic/arrows, try to headshot them, it staggers them

Who's to say they do not deserve the humanity?
In this situation, the host was found in a compromising situation and the invader took advantage of it.
Not much different then attacking a host getting ganged up on by mobs.
