Invading or hosting in random areas provides for much more constant PvP action than the arena. The game itself is not dead, but the arena is close to it unless you're organizing something with friends.

I bought PTDE to have some fair duels in the arena,
but first the save data bug (no loading of my old save data)
and now no arena pvp with my new build
....bah
