Then we get to the other side of things, and sometimes I wonder what I did to lose a rep, yet I can't locate the post I lost it for, such as how I had 201 rep earlier today and now have 199, but no clue where the two posts I was repped down for are. This makes it then difficult to figure out what you've done to disappoint someone so that you can improve your forum conduct, and... well neither is a good feeling.

You know, those numbers next to your name that say 199, or 300 reputation, or -34, etc. I wish we didn't have them. I think all our opinions are equally respectable, and so it makes me sad when I see others, whom I feel are just as worthy of being heard, with lower rep then my own.

I think it should be removed because people abuse the voting system.
Examples:
Give this dude some love!
It's nothing more then an "upvote my friend" thread. The worst part is it worked.
Divine weapon for Catacombs
Myztyrio posted some info, but got downvoted even though the info was accurate.
Bought the AOTB after Prepare to die edition
This poor guy accidently bought the DLC twice and was downvoted. That's just like kicking a man while he's down.
Help remove a hacker from the community or just troll him, or both
Break the rules and you get upvotes! Go Forum!
How can I upgrade a regular weapon to crystal weapon and other types?
The origional poster accidently made a small grammer error. lalliman responded with, "No offence, but if you don't speak english don't go to an english site." He was upvoted because of this. I don't think the Admins or Mods want this forum to promote descrimination, which is illegal in some countries. Also, that post could be considered a violaton of rule #1 "No flaming." and # 4, "No racial, cultural, lifestyle comments/slurs."

I'm fine with it either way. I think they show tendencies of how we're perceived. As well as spellin allowing us to see what people generally appreciate. Even though MOST anomalies get balanced in the end I'm also upset by misuse that's blatant.

Don't worry if people think your rep is too low.
That's what post count is for
However, reece I think you publicly calling out Baal is wrong. He's been admining this forum since they made it (and before on the old forum, as well as being the resident tech-guy), so I think he's doing a pretty damn good job doing it too.. and I read that post, I think he was just trying to say it may be helpful to go to a site that uses his mother tongue.

Wasn't actually a slur, but ignoring that bit.
It is abused at times, but its usually balanced out. It does help identify several of the more actively knowledgeable members.
More important though, is the reasoning behind the statement. If people can't look past a number and see reason, they have bigger issues to work on.

What Forum said really, if you put too much faith in numbers then you're doing it wrong. You should be looking at the words of a post not the numbers of the poster.
Rep also helps highlight important/'good' posts

The comment wasn't warranted, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't technicaly against the rules, as it wasn't a slur.
I'm going to add, its none of our buisness wether or not he got a warning. He could have been PM'd said warning, were it issued.

It wasn't a slur but it was discriminatory. With that attitude, people like Demon Slayer wouldn't be allowed to post here.

I got with that you have to be careful with what you say such as when I was down-repped for a slight criticism of today's U.S.A congress when it comes to healthy agreements. However in what I think is a slight relation with what Pendant said about langue barrier, is that being careful with posting is harder when the poster has a hard time writing English grammar in a way that does not sound insulting in a way.

Meh I really don't care if it stays or if it is removed. I understand it is abused quite often but let's be honest here no one really cares about how much rep you have, as long as you give good advice someone is still going to listen regardless of if you have -35 rep or the rep of a forum God.
If anything I want to see how much up-rep and down-rep a post has gotten. I think a lot of my posts have just been constantly up-repped and it drives me crazy sometimes.

Can't you scroll over the green and/or red bar and find that out right then and there?

I think it evens out like skarekrow said.
If you have a -20 rep, there's a $#@%ing reason man.
In post #2, the examples given of manipulation I think demonstrate the "evening" out. Though they are violations, AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED, i think they are minor enough in nature not to be categorized with the same conduct and annoyances someone with a -20 rep would obviously be guilty of.
I have a problem sometimes not having an extra vote and think, "Dang, I'll have to remembe to upvote that dude",and then of course forget.
I think the differences in personalities (relatively speaking) in accounts that have between 30-300 rep are minimal....
...however the differences from -20 to even 5 is HUGE.
I like the system. GIVE US 4 A DAY!!!!!

The rep system would work perfectly, were it not for people who pointlessly abuse it by downrepping people who are trying to be helpful, as has been said before.

I think, in a way, the reputation system is bad. Being abused, even just a little, is still really bad. IMO it would be better if you had to add a message/note as to why you upvoted/downvoted something, as well as a notification as to which post got it, however i believe it was confirmed impossible. Another solution would be to disable the reputation, but keeping the votes, so that you could see if a post was well received or not.

As the second most important person on the forum, since Emergence passed me up in Reputation, I hope the system stays!
Joking aside, yes it has flaws. I do overall like the system though when it isn't abused, and some of us do try to counter when people abuse the system. I don't make threads about it, but if I see reputation just being tossed around I will try to counter such effects.
I haven't really been around though so such things have been underneath my radar, until now! I'll get back to work.

Also, unless i'm misinformed, isn't the reputation system suppose to show people who has been the most helpful? Now, i'm not complaining or anything at all, but a lot of rep seems to be gained through jokes nowadays. Once again, i'm not complaining, i'm just pointing it out/asking.

That's actually one thing I don't like about how people use it Tart.
Now, reputation is based off what people are most interested in. So if people want a lot of jokes, well it's their right to use reputation that way.
I just personally want more helpful posts on the forum.
