Anime or Manga? Empty Anime or Manga?

Post by Seignar Sun Mar 17, 2013 11:11 pm

So, I've usually gotten to this: Anything Anime I watch, I must read the other sources such as Manga or light novels. I did this with Hellsing, Deadman Wonderland (Btw, did you know the Manga started again as of February? Things got real ), Sword Art Online (In progress, only read the Manga and currently reading novel) and now I plan to try To Love-Ru.

But, the question is what order do you do? Do you watch the Anime first, then read the manga or is it the other way around? Do you even bother with both? Which do you recommend? Does it matter either way for you? Do you believe you should watch/read all sources of a series to get the most enjoyment out of it (Wait, what am I saying, of course...)?

By the listings, I think you can assume I don't watch a lot of anime; or television for that matter...seriously, there is nothing good on these days.

    It all depends actually.
For example. Fruits Basket anime is alot better then the manga version.
Chobits manga is better than the anime version.

Which ever one amuses me more which is why I chose the last one because I thought it was funny.

I myself have never read any of the manga of the anime I watch though, I don't bother because I have other things to read, like the posts in Off-Topic.

What kind of entertainment are you looking for anyway?
If it's romance comedy, Chobits, Fruits Basket, and School Rumble are the way to go. But if you're old enough, try Shuffle!.

it's the same as books and movies, read the boook first since it's always better than the movie/series.

I mainly read manga, and feel no need to watch the anime.

However if my friends/bro watch something through then ill watch with em, just not on my own as i know it already.

I only watch the anime because I like the music. I prefer books over manga, how I'd love for certain anime I enjoy to release books.

I prefer to read then watch, unless its a really stylized action thing. Mostly because I read faster so its easier to decide wether or not I like it but also because filler ****ing sucks.

Sometimes though, like with soul eater or FMAB, it really doesn't matter because its dead on.

Basically what Pirate said. If it's an anime that follows the manga, just go for the anime. If it doesn't, it's better to start with the manga because more often than not it'll be better than the anime, especially when it comes to fillers.

I read and then watched Beelzebub, which at first followed it to a T. But when they put in the first filler episode, it was, without a doubt, still one of the weirdest things I've seen... Prostration

That being said there're also a couple of animes where the dub is better than the sub. Although the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Desert Punk.

It'd really just be easier to do research about whatever it is you're interested beforehand to determine which routes are best. silly

All depends on the mood, I go everywhere, there is nothing that is too much for me! Except pure Romance, terrifying stuff...

I really hate manga that uses too much action, it eats up a lot of the pages and combat in manga isn't really as satisfying than in anime. The only exceptions are combat scenes that aren't too intense (Take for example, Deadman Wonderland; with a few exceptions).

Yeah. The problem with the DBZ manga. 3 pages of landscape at a times. Empty landscape.

I really, really, really, dislike romantic comedy. Nobody ever does anything that makes any sense. Ever.

I'm not necessarily against the concept, elements of romantic comedy are done ok in a lot of things, but good god has every romantic comedy I've seen been terrible. (pure romance is a no-go)

I've actually read a couple of romance-comedy-ish mangas recently, they're kinda nice, though definitely not my favourite genre.

I agree with forum though, but fact is if the characters didn't do exaggerated stupid/overly romantic things then it just wouldn't be as funny or interesting really.

To be honest I feel any anime that is made with filler etc. Isn't really worth watching. It's always rushed out to score on popularity, rather than made to be an actual good piece like series such as death note, monster, FMA:B etc.

I'd much rather an anime airs after the manga has finished for this very reason. Make the lines and actions of characters hint towards the end, just like in any good movie/tv series, make it all link up. Stuff that just gets churned out can't do it.

But tries to by shoving the extra characters down your throat whenever they can. Just makes it worse.

It doesn't have to be complete and utter bull **** to be a romantic comedy though. I don't know why they all go that way. The characters can be defined by more than their attatchment to eachother, but they never are.

Sitcoms have been doing it for years, a lot of them have fairly heavy romantic comedy influences and several turn out fine (imo).

I really wish I had more time for either. Manga wins out for me on convenience, just boot up mangastorm on the ipad and I'm on my way. I can keep up with a series better that way but for visceral action like Claymore, I heavily prefer the anime.

It's very much on a case-by-case basis to me. I'll almost always start with the anime of a series, but whether I continue past where that stops or not really depends on the story itself. If I'm involved enough in the plot, even as the series ends, I'll typically look up the original source material and continue. If the series didn't really hook me too much I'll usually let it be though.
