Is this a good PvP build? Empty Is this a good PvP build?

Post by Satoshi Mon Mar 25, 2013 12:09 am

Hi, after many...many...MANY experiments for builds, I came up with one that suits my play style.

    https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=190477824814982279

I didn't know if I wanted to decrease the attunement so I can put more into endurance. The build I am trying to go on is a str/dex hybrid. The Ascended Flame +5 is only so I can either attack someone from afar, or even a distraction. I don't know any good armors that will help me fast roll. My goal is to get a dex and str weapon, a decent shield, and if I do not use pyromancy, another weapon in order to dual wield.

If anyone can help me make edits to this, I will greatly appreciate it.

I can't really give any specific advice other than to try the Wolf ring and swapping your armor for some lighter pieces, if you want. Might help your Lightning resist to put some cloth armor or something.

That Halberd is weighing you down so much. If you got rid of it you wouldn't need all that Strength and you could even get ninja flip speed or more poise via the Wolf Ring.

I have been comparing the mid roll and fast roll while reading the comments, and it doesn't seem too hindering. I changed out the Ring of Favor and Protection with the Wolf Ring. The poise will actually be pretty good, no one likes a broken guard. I still need to ask, is it a good idea to keep the Ascended Flame +5, or should I switch it out with a light weapon to dual wield?(I am thinking Quelaag's Furysword.)

I need to ask something. I have not actually unequipped the Ring of Favor and Protection yet, but I am worried that if it breaks, I will not be able to get it back until the next playthrough if at all. Should I still break it for the Wolf Ring?

The Flame is by far the safer choice. Not that the curved sword wouldn't be without its benefits, it's just a riskier strategy.

EDIT: You can trade a Xanthous Crown to Snuggly for a 2nd RoFaP.

Well, dual wielding isn't too effective here, sadly. Although Quelaag's Sword, and the other Curved Swords as well, can parry in the left hand, so if you were to pick a weapon to put there, that could work.

I think this one is up to your personal preference.

Thank you both for your replies, it really does help me.

I will give the Crown to Snuggly and unequip my first Ring of Favor and Protection.

I will also occasionally switch between the flame and the sword to mix things up.

As a mid roller, i can say that it is as good as Fast roll, both rolls have flaws but other things that balance them. Also that halberd is an awesome weapon. Overall this is a pretty good build, and i'd stick with the ring of favor, that extra health/stamina can really help. but i would also switch out the Black Knight gauntlets for the Black Iron, enough poise to not be stunned by two handed greatswords, and they still look decent together.

Drop your endurance to 40. Only go over 40 if you need the equip weight to fast roll or mid roll.

Swap your armor out for some heavier pieces, try Black Iron armor, it'll synergize well with your Black Knight armor.

it's a cool cosplay build and it'll carry you thru the pve aspect of dark souls pretty easily.. but for pvp you're probably going to get trucked.

i'd suggest finding one weapon you really want to use and focusing the build towards certain aspects of pvp that you feel you do well in.. maybe we can help you create something more efficient.

Well, with some rounds I just did with others, (mainly people in the forest trying to spawn kill you.) I quickly got a handle on my build. The Uchigatana is for close range, the Halberd is for mid range, and the Pyromancy is for long range.

I apologize for the double post, but I need to ask. What armor pieces can I use in order to fast roll? I finally noticed that the Black Knight Armor is mediocre. I am trying to lighten my weight burden. I plan on keeping my current weapons. (Maybe advise even lighter items in case I feel like mixing out weapons?)

I was thinking of this as well.

    https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=476276701708963031

I would occasionally switch the Dark Wood Grain Ring with the Wolf Ring for the poise.

The DWGR is undoubtedly awesome, but 0 poise is tough at the very least stick that Hollow Soldier Waistcloth on for a - basically - free 7 points of poise.

I used the Hollow Warrior Waistcloth instead. The two extra points of poise in exchange of a mid roll didn't appeal to me too much.

Just switch the hood or the chest piece for something lighter. 7 points is the lowest of the poise breakpoints, at the very leasy you'll be able to resist rapiers and daggers. 5 poise does absolutely nothing.

I swapped out the Tattered Cloth Hood for the Sack due to weight and bleed resistance, and in return, decided to use the Hollow Soldier Waistcloth.
