Poor Ornstien
One topic that me and my buddy talk about while playing darksouls is how ornstien never had anything to do with the DLC. i know in terms of timeline, he was most likely off somewhere else. however with the dlc being about getting a closer look at the knights of gwyn, I thought it would have been KICK A** to team up with the dragon slayer himself and both of you take on Kalameet in an epic battle.

Re: Poor Ornstien
Ornstien to me always seemed like the leader type. I thought he was gonna show up in the DLC because i figured when he heard that Artoris was going to take on the abyss, he would have been worried and not wanted him to go alone. But nope.
Also, i know thers really no good reason for me to assume he was a leader type, and wouldn't let those under him go alone (Assuming he was the leader of the knights of gywn).

I've personally always seen Ornstein as being the leader of the Four Knights.
According to Gough, dragonslaying is knighthoods highest calling, and judging by Ornstein's title, he might have been the greatest dragonslayer of all.
On topic:
I was so terribly disappointed in his lack of appearance.
It makes sense though, since we would be able to kill him early on if he were an NPC. And making him a summon-able phantom would probably be too difficult, taking in according that he is WAY bigger then the chosen undead, and he has a very unique move set.
However. What I wanted to see was a brief cutscene, quickly showing Ornstein.

Actually we wouldn't have been able to kill him early on. You need the lordvessel to access the dlc.

Re: Poor Ornstien
I like to think aswell that he was indeed the leader of Gwyns knights. However perhaps the title of leader was not held in high regard to the other knights. besides the war against the dragons, theirs not much info about the four knights ever coming together for anything. For the most part they seemed to have all just gone about doing their own things. like how artorias went off with no one but sif to traverse the abyss in order to hunt down darkwraiths and manus.
then you had ornstien himself who seem'd as the "always follow orders type". doing the bidding of the gods and portecting the palace.
i cant really say much for gough or carin with a lack of evidence and all.
Back on topic:
I can agree that designing ornstien into the kalameet fight would be a challange. However a cinamatic would have been epic. For example ornstien going ALL OUT GoW STATUS on kalameet. climbing up kalameets back, up to his head and taking out kalameets third eye. That would have been awsome!

Re: Poor Ornstien
I believe the reason Ornstein doesn't make an appearance is because he is in the cathedral guarding the illusion of Gwynevere since Gwyn has already left to link the flame. It would've been really cool to fight alongside him in the Kalameet battle though! Imagine if when you first went through Ornstein's trophy room in Anor Londo it had the normal Dragon heads, but after the DLC it would have the head of Kalameet added to it!!

Re: Poor Ornstien
Although i would love to see Smough and Manus slap and push the ever-loving-crap out of each other like sumo pros, it would make absolutely no sense lorewise. Ornstein, being one of the four knights of Gwyn, could have been sent to Oolacile and nobody would ask questions about it. It makes even more sense having Ornstein help you fight kalamet since he is the Dragonslayer for a reason

He'd run out of room eventually.
Tarkus should also be a summon, but then again the DLC would be too easy if you could summon Tarkus.

Re: Poor Ornstien
Ornstein is believed to be the leader, but we're not sure if he actually was.
He's represented by a lion. Lions are the kings of the jungle, but they're extremely lazy and have the lionesses do all the work for them. They typically only fight other lions, and usually only when they're defending their home turf. I don't think these similarities are coincidence.

Re: Poor Ornstien
Ornstein couldn't get off his lazy butt to go kill Abyss people.
Then Artorias fell, a scumbag stabbed Ciaran in the back and killed her, and after receiving Gough's help he killed Gough too.
Now Ornstein sits in Anor Londo crying because he's the only knight that wasn't killed.

Re: Poor Ornstien
I apologize if I do not have the right information about the DLC, as I do not own it, nor have I looked into it that much.
Honestly when I heard about the DLC focusing more on the four knights of Gwyn, I was interested. I read more about it, and learned about Artorias. With that information, I had two ideas that would be (I pray to God) plausible. Both revolve around Ornstein, and one with Ciaran.
The idea I had was that, before the fight with Artorias, you would probably either find a hidden summon sign for Ornstein, or the cutscene of Artorias' entrance would include Ornstein coming in as well, attacking Artorias to force him out of the Abyss, further helping Sif.
The first 'ending' would be that after you kill Artorias, Ciaran would pray at his grave. She would presume that, due to Ornstein being a knight of Gwyn, as well as partnering up with a mysterious outsider, that he planned to murder Artorias. She would then attack Ornstein, which you would have to kill her as well.
The second would be if you could access the DLC before Ornstein and Smough. I honestly don't know if it's possible or not. IF it was, after beating Artorias with Ornstein, when you pass through the fog, you will find them both as usual. The difference is that Ornstein will not let Smough fight, but instead, he would be much, much stronger than normal.
I apologize for any inaccuracies. I do not own the DLC, so I do not have the best knowledge around it.
