Clearly, everyone has done a few funny things when they were new to Dark Souls. Share them with us. For example, when I first played Dark Souls, I didn't know about the starting equipment, so I rushed to the Asylum Demon with the Broken Straight Sword...and after a long battle, I eventually killed it and got the Demon Great Hammer. I then accidentally went to the graveyard and got the Winged Spear and Zweihander.

I didn't know where to go the first time I saw the Demon.
I spent about an hour trying to kill it, then I quit. This was before I played Demon's so I just thought it was a stupid game. I came back a day later to find the door.

I started off as a Wanderer and named him "Ezio". I would have included "Auditore" but I was on Xbox so I couldn't have spaces.

I was leveling everything equally, with the exception of Strength. I got enough Strength to one-hand BKGS, even though people on the Chatango were telling me that BKS was better. I ended up with about 22 in everything.

I thought Pharis hat was cool.

When I first started the game, I thought filling every slot in my equipment was good, and Strength was the only investment I needed.

I always wondered how other people rolled so fast, while I was a potato.

And I think I was in Anor Londo by the time I learned how to ascend a weapon.

    Newbie Life resumed...

Now imagine...after this, I went and completed the Catacombs first and got stuck in the ToG.

Later, I died at Anor Londo bridge because I voluntarily walked off thinking that there was some sort of invisible path.
Later, I died to the unbeatable Seath boss...4 times.
The first time I fought the Moonlight Butterfly was at SL60, after I had collected 2 of the Lord Souls.

But, most importantly: I leveled RES

Things You've Done as a Newbie Empty Re: Things You've Done as a Newbie

Post by Satoshi Sun Apr 28, 2013 9:05 pm

This next one was my friend not me.

I wanted to pull a prank on one of my friends by introducing him to Dark Souls. He calls himself one of the greatest gamers ever, yet he hates any game with literally difficulty at all. I told him all about the classes in his character creation. He only likes quick weapons, but believes that they should also deal the absolute most damage that you can one-shot anything. He likes scimitars, so he chose a Wanderer and named it Price (a comic character he made.)

As he spawned for the first time, he started yelling angrily "Where is my Scimitar!"

I quickly told him, "You need to find it."

    "Where?"

"I don't know, I went through with only that broken weapon."

He grunted angrily as he proceeded through the game. As he got to the Asylum demon, he said "oh, this thing can't do any damage to me. It's just a tutorial boss!" Then...he got crushed and killed.

"You need to dodge...or find your equipment." I said to him.

He was visibly angry and he ended up finding the passageway to the items, but was killed by the boulder. "Oh my God!" He screamed. I kept watching, silently making a visual map. He ended up getting to both of his items. As he tried equipping his Scimitar, he was shot a few times.

I chuckled and told him, "oh, the game doesn't pause." He growled angrily. He only equipped his Scimitar and killed the weak hollows. "Why not use your shield?"

He replied, "Shields suck, using only a weapon makes you fast." I sighed as he continued to the Asylum Demon. He managed to get the aerial attack and dealt major damage. "Oh my God! Why isn't it dead!?"

I sighed, "the game isn't the easiest in the world, ya know?"

He said something angrily, it showed he did learn something. "Is there a way to ninja flip, climb walls, and fly to get up there again?" Or he just wanted to be like a character in his comic...

I spoke, "well, you CAN roll, but not ninja flip yet."

He started yelling at me. "That sucks! Why can't you ninja flip right away, I want to be fast!"

"Well, you did pick one of the fastest starting classes."

He asked a question. "When can I use the Twin Humanities for alchemy to make potions or stronger weapons?"

"There are no potions, and Humanity is used to well...increase your humanity."

He died to the Asylum Demon...again...then he threw my controller out the window, poured lighter fluid on it, and set it on fire....he never payed me back for that.

When I first started I kept on going to the catacombs thinking it was the right place to go. I died so many times and that was when the game was first launched so I would get nothing for killing the skeletons. The worst part was going down Blightown and then going up the way to the Depths. My nightmares are located there.

Oh, one of my mistakes was that I didn't know the Hellkite was too strong to kill on your first try if you are really unlucky.

That was going WAY too far..
I invested in 99 strength off the bat.
    Whole character was a mess.

No it was not at the depths that scarred me. I had the master key and had no clue where Quelagg was. So I went UP the path from the depths leading to Blightown in reverse. Meaning I was going from Blightown to the depths and I did not have the key to the depths at the time.

At least you didn't try using dex weapons with that strength. For stats, I SOMEHOW didn't mess up anything about stats. But for equipment, I wasn't very accurate with what was what. I felt as if leveling up was more important than upgrading items. I fought Gaping Dragon with a normal Halberd...which I was not very accurate with.

Another mistake of mine was to use the Artorias greatsword as my main weapon. I ruined any chance of making a good 100 sl.

Ouch...one of my mistakes was that I felt so bad about being forced to fight Sif, I was literally paralyzed with sadness that I never attacked him for three hours straight. I just kept dodging over and over again. Eventually, I killed him and felt even worse. I have cynophobia, so it was also frightening. I became scared of canines after I nearly lost my eyes to one; it ripped my face to shreds, but I recovered with many stitches and only one scar.

On my first run, I went to the Parish, killed the Gargoyles, went to Darkroot Gardens, killed the butterfly, got my friend to help me with Sif, and then I had no idea where to go

EDIT:I was also scared that I broke the cat covenant when I saw the Covenant of Artorias in my inventory.

I, completely by coincidence, joined the Darkwraiths and got the Dark Set, Hand, and Sword. I left and then re-joined the Path of The Dragon.

I need to ask, if I invade somebody as a PoTD, what color is my phantom?

Path of the Dragon is probably one of the most fun covenants in the game really.

You can only be summoned by people without phantoms, so every fight is a duel.

I am actually making a cosplay build which requires wearing these exact items, nothing else.

    https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=191473198363970981

This cosplay build is really hard to use, but the payoff is unbelievably amazing. Sadly, because of needing 50 int and a catalyst, the build is missing the White Dragon Breath.

As a Dragon you still must expect everything in PvP.

Also never bring a phantom to the forest when PvPing. it gets nasty.

I've only summoned my friend as a phantom once. I know to expect everything no matter what when I am in the forest. I have beaten a 3v1 with that build, and it was all because I actually fought to the rhythm of music. My strikes were timed with parts of the song.

If in Dark Souls II, they keep the dragonoid and add an ice upgrade for a greatsword, it will be perfect.

I think an ice upgrade would maybe be something that might slow down attack and spell casting ever so slightly, but can stack if used enough times. It would probably look like crystals enveloping the opponent's body. If the ice 'bar' (like bleed or toxic) is filled up completely, you will deal reduced damage in addition to slower strikes. In exchange, ice buildup will be absolutely horrid and will most likely only be effective against a high vit healer.
