Re: skyrim WHAT???
While I agree that skyrim is too hyped and can be somewhat boring...
I have to ask was there any need for this thread?

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I can see the attraction in skyrim, I have only played about 6 hours of it before the game froze too much for me to continue and I put it down. But I do plan to pick it up again further down the road, when its hopefully more playable in my eyes.
The most nerve wracking thing for me is the item burden.. I know its LOGICAL but I just can't stand it that system is so aged, I hated it in demons souls, and I hate it in the scroll's games too. I don't think it adds anything. Especially since I can only kill 1 dragon at a time due to their bones weighting like 40 pounds each then, I cant pick flowers on my way to drop of their carcasses >:c

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I do enjoy Skyrim, I haven't played it since Dark Souls but it still is a good game. It is a great adventure game and if you ignore the main story you can really get absorbed in the world. The only time I will be bothered by people talking about it is if they mention the combat, or difficulty of Skyrim. Skyrim on its hardest difficulty is quite a joke, as a Mage I can practically go through the whole came without taking damage, as an archer even worse. I actually don't mind the bugs, I'm an avid fan of the New Fallout games after all. Still I think just outright bashing the game won't do any good, it just has a different crowd. I do think it is over-rated, but I still think it is a pretty good game.
In my OPINION though, I'd say Dark Souls is superior.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
Just started Skyrim. Gorgeous visuals and a lot of hidden lore to discover. So far so good. Combat is less than stellar but I do get satisfaction from the growl my kitty cat does when he runs someone through. The fact that I'm on this forum while playing Skyrim says how I feel about Dark Souls but don't think a cheap shot on another game is warranted unless you're contrasting and comparing. Otherwise I would have started the "Barbie Horse Adventures was nothing special" thread awhile ago.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I think Skyrim is great for a Hiking/Gardening Simulator, but not much else than that. It's pretty much Oblivion with dragons, all terrain replaced with snow, and 3/4s of the guards walk around with targets painted on their knees. The only upside is dual wielding, which they had in Daggerfall, but somehow only people in Daggerfall and Skyrim know how to hold two weapons in their hands. Not to mention Daggerfall can hold my interest 100% better than Skyrim can, if that tells you anything. Man that game is hard. Wish they'd remake it.

thats fair enough, though to be fair your was of asking was to begin with a really negative opinion towards it I'd say objectivity is a better approach
anyway my full thoughts on skyrim: It's big, it's nice it's pretty. But for me, it does not have enough substance. The combat I had to use bound sword (a sword made outta magic for those who dont know) so i could justify being able to swing it like it weighed nothing, and in general the combat is just messy, mashing attack/magic and occasionally opening a menu to chug some health potions if i cant just dispatch them. Also regenrating health for no reason at all? :|
Though I'm being very cynical, i dont mind the combat too much. Thing that sucks to me is the story line and random quests.. They don't interest me at all and while it's huge and there's lots to do, i feel it's pointless when I can't immerse myself in it because of boring scripting/writing and glitches that i can't even count which bring me straight back to reality.
Problem I found with skyrim was I just didn't feel like there was anything to keep me interested in it. I played 10 hours and got bored because it's pretty much just a bigger, simplified oblivion with a new feature that occurs when you press the R2 button.. Felt like i was playing almost the same game except it didn't begin with the epic booming voice of Sir Patrick Stewart.
Again I'm being very cynical and over critical, it's a good game. But i just can't get into it :|
btw should this be in the offtopic section?

Re: skyrim WHAT???
Well, skyrim is pretty fun, ill admit, though after I played Dark Souls, I was never able to even pick skyrim up again... Dark Souls in my opinion is the better game, but Skyrim is surely not a bad game either.

It's just because most people haven't heard of Demon Souls and Oblivion is very popular.

You know, I checked where that avatar came from. The skyrim people's expression was similar to that of the people who play Dark Souls.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
Ya... I liked Oblivion more... but that is due to one thing:
Ayelid Ruins.
Seriously, a scoured across the world, without even doing quests, to find and search for all Magic Stones. After that, I sook herbalism and the Sigil Stones as well. I had a collection of over 700 of those damn teal crystals... but I was so greedy, that I barely ever used em. Waste. But it was fun as hell. I just ran threw the Oblivion gates, and never fought thou. Too easy or too hard I found (especially as a Mage over 20. Fight those magic absorbing **** that summon those dinosaurs. hate them, hate them both!)
Skyrim? Blah. Too easy and the enemy rankings of difficulty seems... unreal. A Dragon Priest or a Dragon Eldar? Priest harder. >.>

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I might've enjoyed Skyrim if I hadn't discovered Dark Souls. As it is I feel I spent $60 for a re-usable sleep-aid (plus $30 for the guide).

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I can't express how frustrating it is to see someone place themselves (alone or as a groupe above others based on something like a game preference. Its a difference of opinion and should be respected. This thread is shameful on the part of OP and has no place in a legitimate forum. Not only are you generalising based on a small, vocal percentage but you're just as bad for posting threads like this.

Are you not doing yourself what you are so openly critising others for in your post? while yes imo i think dark souls is the better game they are both still very good games that i enjoyed playing and have both 1000gs for each (xbox360), there is no need to discredit either game as imo they are completely different, like apples and oranges they come under the same genre but are nothing a like, and i enjoy them both

Re: skyrim WHAT???
My only real dislike about Skyrim was that Bethesda really dropped the ball on the release, I don't care how big a game is, QA is there for a reason, hire more people.
As this is Skyrim and I'm trying to behave I'll leave this behind, enjoy, I know I did roughly the same thing...

Re: skyrim WHAT???
2 weeks ago i had the choice - Skyrim or Dark Souls
I chose Dark Souls cos i'd played Oblivion and Shivering Isles and the "Three Kings??" add ons.
I agree with all the previous posts - Oblivion was brilliant 4 years ago on the PC my wife played it non stop - now ex-wife - lol - she's playing Skyrim on PS3, I'm playing DS on XBL.
I believe i got the best deal

Re: skyrim WHAT???
The incomparable Mr.Biffo once wrote that if anyone had foretold of the quality of the game he was currently playing (Metroid Prime) when he first started playing games, they'd have been burned as a witch.
Think about that when you criticise a game like Skyrim. Perhaps a few hours spent playing with two dashes and a dot (Pong) would help you appreciate what we have gamewise today.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I was fairly impressed with skyrim. The visuals are stunning and I spent hours just walking around discovering new dungeons etc.
I even found the difficulty pretty fair to start with, but as soon as I hit around level 20 I found everything far too easy. I mean the dragons are a joke in the end.
And the main quest is far too short and really not very interesting.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
I played Skyrim and loved it, spent lots of hours on it but I also hated it, hated the glitches, freezes and it became too monotonous.
Although I gotta say too that there is no point in comparing skyrim with dark souls, two whole different universes, just because they are rpgs....if I had to choose the better one of course I would choose Dark Souls at the end.

Re: skyrim WHAT???
Slakemoth - never a true word said.
I broke out my Sinclair Spectrum a while back with fond memories of Manic Miner, Jet Set Willie and other classics - waited 10 minutes to load (after adjusting the volume a few times) and found the whole experience dissapointing lol fond memories of classic games should stay in memories.
I used to watch the first time round Batman series as a kid - ooooo its soooooo bad...
Games now, even the bad ones are visually superb now a days
