Ok that sounds like it'd be a console related message, someone sending you a message. You on the xbox, ps3 or pc?

PS3 pal, what I have noticed in settings is notifications turned off, could that be it?

Press the PS button while in-game, then [using the directional buttons] move to the right most tab of the XMB where you can see the list of friends, players you've met etc.Scroll down from that and there is an option to view received messages from other players. That should do it. Hope that helps mister.

I turn the messages notifications off, annoying to see it pop up during Netflix or playing a game.
