Greatsword vs Zweihander
Me and my buddy on LIVE were having a 'heated' discussion about which is better. I love my Chaos Great sword+5 (676 damage baby), cause of its huge stab attack, but the Zwei has chain strong attack. Obviously, this is just preferences, but I'm just wondering

Zweihander all the way.
Greatsword weighs 2 units more, requires 4 extra stat points, and has the same amount of damage.
Pancakes beat stabs any day of the week.

I don't have much experience with either, but I have been Zwei chain-staggered into a bloody pulp quite a few times. Seemed pretty effective.

If you are a shameless min/maxing tryhard, you will love the zweihander. If you love Tarkus or style, you will pick the swagsword.(I apologise if I sound offensive, this isn't directed at anyone but the people I invade)
Greatsword all the way,it might not be optimal but people won't facepalm when they see you have it.

Does Tarkus use a Zwei? No he doesn't. Therefore, anything Tarkus does not use that is a substitute for what he uses, is worthless.

Zweihander R2's are better.KrazykevS10 wrote:If you are a shameless min/maxing tryhard, you will love the zweihander. If you love Tarkus or style, you will pick the swagsword.(I apologise if I sound offensive, this isn't directed at anyone but the people I invade)

Greatsword R2's rarely hit and when they do it doesn't pancake so anyone with a large amount of poise (I roll with 90+ myself, depending on how high my stamina is) will just punish you.

You're being biased on a weapon that's in every way worse than the Zweihander besides the different R2, which is only better in certain situations.EarthScraper wrote:Does Tarkus use a Zwei? No he doesn't. Therefore, anything Tarkus does not use that is a substitute for what he uses, is worthless.

- Spoiler:
Dibs, of course I'm being biased. Ever tried being not biased? It's boring, no one listens to you.
The Zwei's smash is damn effective to be fair, but i find the thrust is great for staggering bosses, staggers most people pretty easily, assuming I hit them of course

Re: Greatsword vs Zweihander
Let me just make a quick comparison:
Zweihander weighs 10 units, Greatsword weighs 12 units.
Zweihander requires 24 STR and 10 DEX, Greatsword requires 28 STR and 10 DEX
Both Zweihander and Greatsword have the exact same scaling and exact same damage output
Zweihander and Greatsword R1's are the same speed
Zweihander has a faster R2
Zweihander's R2 pancakes and travels a long distance
Greatsword's R2 is a simple stab that can be outranged, sidestepped, or very easily parried as you have enough time to literally see the start of the attack and get close to parry even with lag.
Atlhough Zwei's R2 can also be sidestepped, it has a faster recovery and can go into an R1 stunlock combo as compared to a Greatsword who's R2 has a huge recovery time.
Greatsword is outclassed in every way.

You're just not cool enough to be like TARKUS!!!! My argument is as follows:Tarkus Tarkus Tarkus,Tarkus TARKUS Tarkus.Tarkus Tarkus Iron Golem, owned by Tarkus.Dibsville wrote:Let me just make a quick comparison:

Re: Greatsword vs Zweihander
Why do people like Tarkus so much?
Because he can take down the easiest boss in the game by himself?
Beatrice can do that and she doesn't get any love.
Imagine NG+7 Beatrice. It would hurt to get hit by THAT Soul Arrow.

Tarkus is just cool for some reason.Solaire is beloved too, nobody questions that.Maybe because they are good summons.Beatrice is bad against the Four Kings but those two would have been good there.

I'd have to disagree, Beatrice is good against the Four Kings, but the extra HP they get from summoning her isn't worth it.KrazykevS10 wrote:Tarkus is just cool for some reason.Solaire is beloved too, nobody questions that.Maybe because they are good summons.Beatrice is bad against the Four Kings but those two would have been good there.

They are magic resistant, not too much but it nerfs her effectiveness.Whereas Solaire has lightning which they are weak against.

I guess people miss her the first time around because they miss the sign (you'd be surprised how many people miss it under that tree). Tarkus is relatively obvious though.

Re: Greatsword vs Zweihander
Tarkus is pointless.
All he does is make an easy boss easier.
Beatrice actually serves a purpose for the Butterfly and Four Kings.
Even if you have long ranged stuff for Butterfly, you're going to do sh*t for damage compared to Beatrice.
Beatrice is a great distraction for Four Kings. Almost on par with Mildred.

Tarkus is a meat shield, the iron Golem could have killed me a lot of times on my first play through due to those attacks that send you sailing around. he isn't really needed anymore, but I bring him along cause he is epic

Re: Greatsword vs Zweihander
I find Solaire less effective a summon than Lautrec, however Lautrec is a d-bag and Solaire is a bro with a good story that you can follow, so I get his popularity.
I don't so much get Tarkus' popularity. I summon him everytime for the Iron Golem and let him solo it as far as he can, and more than 50% of the time he loses. I get that he's a walking tank, and he deals damage against the Golem, but it's not a hard boss and (in my games at least) he's not all that effective.
Dibs made a good point with Beatrice, she's far more effective vs the Moonlight B than Tarkus is vs the Iron G (yeah, rhymes b**ches).
I find Tarkus performs at about the same level as Mildred, good for a distraction and dishing damage, but not really worth the mega hype they get. The times Mildred spends frolicing in the lava is about the same as the time Tarkus spends shield bashing the Golem for 5dmg.
I do like to RP Mildred though, cast Flash Sweat and bathe in the lava, occasionally coming out for a hit or two then going back in.
Does anyone know if the Charred Ring makes you nearly immune to Quelaags lava?
Getting back on topic, Zwei all the way.
I like the Greatswords thrust, and paired with the Leo ring you can get some epic damage from counters, but like Dibs said it's way, way to telegraphed. It suffers a bit too much from DaS "heavy weapon syndrome" where it's thrust attack has so much windup that some laggy *** Aussie on Dial-up could blind parry it.
