Oh God, slower weapons?
Seems like all the weapons except the duel wielders have long wind-ups in the trailers.

Bar the Halberd, all the weapons looked to have better movesets to me, and the large swords looked to have a quicker first swing with an equal or slower recovery.

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
I've only glanced over the gameplay reveals, but I'd say that weapon swings (especially with the Halberd and the Axe) seem slower than in Dark Souls. I haven't actually timed anything though.

Move sets being slower is something I can definitely get behind.

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
Did anyone else notice the magic blade being actually a spell rather than a weapon buff? Maybe I'm mistaken..
OT: The swing speed seemed appropriate to me, though the actual strikes seemed to have less ''weight'' to them...

Yeah, I saw that, it looked really cool. He was wielding a catalyst, and it turned into a really long blade made from magic, struck the mob with it once, and it was a catalyst again.
Did anyone notice the backstabs? I'm not a fan of backstabs, but they did make them look a lot better.

Yes I agree, better than the generic thrust through the body (which looked kind of ridiculous with a scythe). Hopefully there are distinct animations for different weapons or at least weapon categories..

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
I didn't think that particular animation looked amazing, but from one of the gameplay interviews it sounds like there will be variation in them. Which is a good thing in my opinion. I agree I think certain weapons looked very silly during backstabs.

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
I read this and all I have to say is, I hope so, but I know better now that Demons/Dark has tasted major financial success it will become a fast paced roll-fest (more so than it already is, and believe me I could go on for days about how I believe the game should be slowed down even more, I.E. get rid of those retarded rolls)Dibsville wrote:Seems like all the weapons except the duel wielders have long wind-ups in the trailers.

All you need is a sick *** backstab anyways.

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
Do you reckon the slower swing speed is to stop people from stunlocking? This would instantly make every UG weapon pointless.

Specific advantage of dual-wielding, faster attack speed?

Yup, and good on the dual wielding too
I don't mind slower swing speeds. It'll make the combat more realistic. I mean faster swings can be fun, but I like more realistic combat than cartoony swings

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
I wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't look like a literal pause.
See the Halberd R2? He literally put his weapon out, paused for a second, then attacked. Not like an animation like he was about to attack, just a long pause for no reason.

Of course that might just be the reviewers slow reflexes or inexperience with the game.

naw it was pretty clear that the pause was part of the swing. the character brought his weapon out to the side, chilled for a second and then started the attack

Re: Oh God, slower weapons?
When Dark Souls first came out, this was one of the minor complaints (summoning issues were precedent).
After a while, people realized that not only were their weapons slower, but so were everyone else's. So in essence if we have fast weapons, then we all have fast weapons. If we have slow weapons, then we all have slow weapons so to speak.
Imo, Demon's Souls had a handful of pvp viable builds to choose from with some variety and spice. Then Dark Souls came along and offered two handfuls of builds with yada yada yada. So if DkS2 comes along with three handfuls of builds that yada yada, then I'll be happy, whether the combat has been slowed or sped up.
I'm REALLY excited right now. This years kinda been crap anyway...BRING ON 2014!!!!
