Hey all. I've been looking for a way to get into Dark Souls more, and happened to stumble upon this glorious site. Hope I get to know some of you as I waste my precious time on these forums! Voluntarily, of course.

    Anywhoooo...~
I've been itching to ask someone about this, so here goes: I decided to start a SL1 playthrough, and have progressed all the way up until the Four Kings. I've only gotten to face them once, due to some issues with my PS3, but the one time I did, they kicked my ***, and proceeded to send me various messages calling me casual. All joking aside, does anyone have any tips for this fight? I have a Lightning +5 Reinforced Club, with Grass Crest Shield and Upgraded Pyromancy +5, w/ fast rolling. Also, this is NG, in case anyone was wondering.

    Thanks for any help/responses.

    Welcome to the forums.

First of all, fast roll is your best choice. It's better to not get hit at all than to try to tank hits.

Second, don't be too greedy. You're using the strongest weapon a SL 1 can get, so you need to use it wisely. Conserve your stamina, and don't hit too many times.

Third, use Power Within. Although it may seem like there are better options, run Power Within and Great Combustion. As soon as you hit the ground, cast Power Within and waste the first king with your Combustions.

You should have a few Combustions left over. At this point the real fight starts. The easiest way to fight is to strafe around to the left of the king and dodge their horizontal attack. Their vertical attack should miss you altogether. The hard part is pacing yourself. Don't attack after the first horizontal hit because they sometimes follow up with a second one and that can be deadly. Once you know for sure they will not follow up, or once you have dodged the second hit, punish them with an R2. With Power Within, it will do insane damage. Just rinse and repeat until the boss is dead.

Ah, I appreciate the quick response Dibs. Never considered PW, but I suppose if I'm not tanking hits I shouldn't have to worry too much about vitality. Also, is a Reinforced Club w/ Chaos +5 a better choice for this particular fight? Just asking since I do know The Four King's weakness is fire~

For the most part, Chaos is the best choice, but the Four Kings have a higher Lightning weakness, and, as tested on my SL 1's, Lightning does the most of every upgrade.

Another tip:  you need the ring of the abyss.  Lets say you use it in slot2.  Before heading out, put a Seance ring on slot 2, and equip power within as your last spell.  Before you drop in to fight the 4kings, cast power within, then equip abyss ring, then drop in w. great combustions and combustions or black flame.  Other ring FaP or Bellowing, and Dusk Crown if you're good at dodging

    This.
Swap out Seance Ring for another ring.

If you do it like this, attune Combustion, NOT GREAT FIREBALL.

Combustion has 16 casts for 2/3 the damage of Great Combustion (in actuality, Combustion does more damage than Great Combustion if all the casts are used).

With Crown and Ring. 2 Combustions attuned is enough to take even NG+ Kings out. It's really the best PvE pyromancy out there, strong enough to drop things and plenty of casts.

I recently made a SL10 build, and beating the 4 kings was pretty easy. I used a crest shield, +5 lightning Longsword, Havel's armour and the Iron Flesh pyromancy. Sorry to give such different information than you dibs, but this works really well. just keep strafing around your enemy, and 2-hand your sword for maximum damage. when they do the AoE magic attack, just back up and use the shield to black it.

Magic +10 Wooden Round Shield, or a Crystal Ring shield will be very handy.  It'll break your stamina when it throws its spells at you but you'll survive the hit thanks to the magic defense of the shields.  Crest Shield also works.  Depends really on how much weight you have to spare while still fast rolling.

The fight's easier even a few levels above SL1 because you get access to better weapons at that point. I say to stick with your Att and blast away with Pyromancy, Crown of Dusk and Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring. 32 Combustions ought to get you through the fight, that's 8 per king and I doubt it'll take so many. Focus on dodging them rather than blocking, but you might just have bad luck and get killed since they can occasionally waste you in one hit.

I also wouldn't recommend a Chaos+5 Club unless you rarely die and have plenty of Humanity to spare. Since it's a SL1 playthrough, I doubt you do so stick with Lightning.

If the four kings one shot you I would suggest just using full hyper mode, i.e. power within red tearstone ring and lingering dragon crest ring. If you have the crown of dusk on you should be able to do hefty amounts of damage very quickly, especially if you decide to switch out the lingering dragon crest ring for either bellowing dragon crest or red tearstone.

I have to disagree with the fast roll. Unless you're doing a NG+ or higher SL1 run, wear full Havel's, use Power Within, and wreck them. If you have 20 Estus they won't even come close to killing you.

Of course. Dodging is the best way to stay alive in both PvP and PvE. But if he is just trying to finish up with the Four Kings havelling is the easiest way. big grin
