I am a chaos blade user so I naturally go with it. Has a learning curve to it especially for the r2 moves. Also this belongs in the PvP section.

okay, so I think ill go with the Laito. What should I upgrade it to? should it be +15, Raw +5, Fire +5, or Lighting +5?

The best upgrade is always +15 (not including Crystal) as long as you have 40 Dexterity.

On a standard Dex build Crystal Uchi has the highest AR. On 40/40 Quality builds and anything above(the 200+ realm) Washing Poles slight str scaling push it over the top. at max stats Crystal WP beats the Uchi by 9 ar.
For general use and convention the Chaos Blade has the highest AR for a Dex build (not many people will buy a bazillion Uchi's from Shiva and make em all Crystal +5 though I suppose with MM or CE it'd be easy enough to keep them in stock)
Despite being the strongest CB has the self inflicted damage, and terrible R2s compared to it's competition.
Uchi and Washing pole have the same moveset, but the Pole is longer almost to the point of sillyness. the 1hr2 thrust is IMO very usefull, for all the reasons people like the longsword or BSS 1hr2 thrusts The Uchi/WP have this same advantage.
The Iiato is the easiest Katana to Dead Angle with and the 2hr2 has about as much reach as the WP's 1hr2 due to the forward step(s) taken.
Really it comes down to which R2s you like best, or if you can live with almost never using the R2 button and Want the best bleed build up the Chaos Blade wins out.

Thats odd, I was sure it was once per playtrough weapon dropped by shiva, but apparently you can buy it. I got it mixed up with Murakumo. Crystal WP would be funny, how much durability does it even have when crystal?

With a Buff on 60 hits on an opponent is like 15 fights easy

I tend to prefer the Chaos Blade over the rest of the katanas. I really like the concept of taking damage to do damage; it forces you to make attacks count and to play a bit smarter than usual. It also looks groovy so there is that too. Uchi and Iaito both do roughly the same damage with the difference being negligible. The Iaito probably has the better moveset over the Uchi, but the Uchi does have a pretty good thrusting attack for it's one-handed R1 attack.
Overall, Chaos Blade is my favorite and I would say best katana in Dark Souls. Uchi and Iaito are perfectly fine weapons; however, the theme and humanity scaling of the Chaos Blade make it the best in my opinion.

Very true, 460 AR buffed is nothing to scoff at with that speed and range.
