Personally, I think Obama Care should be optional, not mandatory.

Re: The State of the World
Not everybody wants Obama F***, is that not true?
Besides Obama F*** has already seen it's way into the work force. I get less hours at work, because of this s***. Where as some other people get mandatory hours, because they need the money for health coverage, because they originally worked a certain bit more hours than I.
I only get 1 day of work, where as I used to get 2 or 3.
Some people want to watch the world burn.

I wasn't saying that everyone wants it, I had just thought that one of the intents of the bill was for everyone to get health care... I'm very sorry about your job situation.Hatsune Miku wrote:Not everybody wants Obama F***, is that not true?

It's nothing you can't help. Obama can though. If he tried.

Actually, he has nothing to do with that. That's the Republican party's fault. He's Democrat.Hatsune Miku wrote:If he was trying, the government wouldnt've shut down.

Based off what my History Teacher told meReaperfan wrote:So as someone who doesn't keep up with politics much, can anyone here who does follow American political stuff explain what all is going on with this "government shutdown" thing?
The Government couldn't decide on a budget within a certain period of time, so they're laying off unessential government workers(AKA people who work in national parks, people who upkeep memorials or monuments, etc.) to avoid going over a budget paying them before the budget has even been agreed on.

Actually it's a mix of the two. But the Democrats don't want to negotiate with the Republicans. It takes two to tango.Soul of Stray Demon wrote:Actually, he has nothing to do with that. Re: The State of the World
That's not negotiation though, that's just holding the government hostage till their demands are met. To change for them would be akin to changing because of a terrorist threat.Hatsune Miku wrote:Actually it's a mix of the two. But the Democrats don't want to negotiate with the Republicans. Re: The State of the World
Vinyl, where exactly do you work?
Also, signing up for Obamacare itself is not mandatory, you can of course use it to look up plans and such but you don't have to sign up for health care through it. Now having said that, having some sort of reputable health care is mandatory, no matter who you sign up with. If you choose not to get health insurance you will be forced to pay a fine.
No Serious, this is not a single-payer plan. In fact, it is a very moderate health care plan but it is being opposed (despite it being already law) by the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party because they resent the law because it passed with no GOP votes.

Re: The State of the World
Serious, rather than pay for health care with tax money it's supposed to have reforms to lower costs overall and it mandates that everyone needs something. We still have to pay for it but it's supposed to be cheaper.
To tell you how great of a start it's off to (in addition to the government shutdown) the New York market website has been bogged down so bad in the first few days it's unusable. It's where we are supposed to be able to shop for plans (like I need to). I can purchase through work but it hasn't been affordable historically for me. We have no clue if our work rates will be the same or go down yet and since the market website is useless for now I have no idea if the Affordable Health Care Act (Obama pushed for it but blaming any national sweeping changes completely on the president is a little narrow view imo) will indeed make it affordable

Same thing here in Florida. Just too many people (honestly, this should have been expected and guarded against) on at one time is my guess. You're lucky if you can even just access your portfolio.skarekrow13 wrote:Serious, rather than pay for health care with tax money it's supposed to have reforms to lower costs overall and it mandates that everyone needs something. Sucks for me because I have to find a new plan in a month's time because my current plan is now demanding I pay $1700 a month and I can't afford it so I need to look for something else. Right now though, it's slow going.

Re: The State of the World
thats ridiculous. American system bemuses me lol. Here you can go to your GP, get stuff treated there or get referred to specialist in hospital, or you can rock up to A and E with an emergency to get treated.. all on the house.
I genuinely can't comprehend how bad it would be to be in a country where poor people couldn't get health care.. I actually find it disgusting.. Refusal of treatment to someone who needs it or preferential treatment based off how rich someone is genuinely irks me.
I literally couldn't practise in America with a healthy conscience if people get turned away at the door.

Re: The State of the World
I think it is a poor analogy to compare the shutdown to terrorism. It is more like manipulation instead of terrorism.
Another point for me is I hate the party system. It is republicans vs democrats. You belong to a party and they tell you what to think. Why can't we have people in the government that act like adults instead of posturing to make their party the leader?
And, a government shutdown is an utter and intolerable failure on both parties. We pay them to make decisions and not to bicker.
