I am not looking to start a flame war with this so please leave pc/mac fanboy comments out and be respectful.

I've been a pc user for about 7 years now but I'm becoming fed up with the system. Computers I get inevitably slow down after a few months. I do preform regular maintenance on my computer, I defrag monthly, remove unused programs and files and I have norton.

First off, I'm wondering if Mac's encounter this same problem.

I'm in the process of building up an at home studio and everyone I've talked to recommends going mac. So my next question is do programs such as Pro Tools (or any other DAW you're familiar with) run better on macs?

Please excuse my technical stupidity here.

It's my understanding that macs generally do run design programs more smoothly. Maybe it's just that most design programs are made more with mac users in mind. I'm not really sure. I'm a PC user also, for completely different reasons, but I used to work as a graphic designer and I can say through personal experience that Adobe programs are generally more efficient on macs

My brother also runs his own recording studio and I know he almost exclusively uses mac's for all his software stuff. Although I won't pretend to know exactly what software that is.
