Well you don't want to end up like Gwyn, unless you're a pyromaniac or just an arsonist. Being a dark lord is overrated though, I mean, look at Emperor Palpatine, it didn't do much for his looks. I think you should stay neutral and just wallow there for a while.

It doesn't matter how you end it as far as newgame+ is concerned. I didn't know what I was doing and got the Dark Lord ending. Never saw the bonfire. You'll still go on to newgame whichever ending you select. Of course, if you're after the Platinum trophy, you'll have to be careful and select the other ending at the end of newgame+.
