So I'm designing my current build to essentially be: lighter armor, fast light weapon, and 50 STR for an emphasis on Havel's Shield. For my weapon do you guys think I'm better off going for an elemental upgrade, I was thinking lightning, or sacrificing some SL points for INT and going for a standard +15 and sorcery buffs? I was initially thinking elemental but with that 50 STR for the HGS prereq would I better off leaving my weapons standard for buffs and scaling?

Specifically I'm wearing the Thorns set and I've been using the Barbed Straight Sword

You would be better finding a weapon that scales well with strength and buffing it. With 50 strength I reckon a weapon with S or A strength scaling would easily outdamage a chaos, fire, or lightning weapon, even without buffs.

You could easily get 30 int without sacrificing many points. http://tinyurl.com/7gtqweu

This gives you enough int to use crystal magic weapon and add roughly 200 damage to any weapon you buff. You'll be able to deal a LOT of damage.

I feel like most of the weapons with S-B STR scaling are larger weapons. I definitely want to stay on the lighter side so I can wear halfway decent armor and still medium roll with Havel's GS. I'm really enjoying the BSS. I've been slaughtering in PvP with the bleed damage. I had even considered trying to use the Notched Whip. I figured it'd be a decent tactic in combination with the HGS because it wont matter that I can't parry, because I'd have a GS anyway, but it'd also be taking away anyone's ability to parry me.

Having 50 str and not using one of those weapons would be a waste of your str. There are other greatshields that can have the same stability as havels and less than half of the requirement for havels. If you want faster weapons and aren't dead set on using havels I'd recommend the eagle shield.

The Demon's Great Axe has an S scaling when you upgrade it. At 50 str it's best to use STR weapons, I prefer to use elementals at low levels <60~80.

Look at Havel's defense stats though. That's why I want to try it. My ultimate goal is to 2-hand it with this build. But I want a decent backup weapon anyway. Because why wouldn't you?

Maybe I'll just try one of each. I'll elemental my BSS and upgrade a larger STR scaling weapon and then decide.

I've actually been using the Lucerne as a secondary this time around, just because I've wanted to try it for awhile. So far I'm enjoying it. More than any of the other pole arms. I'm pretty unimpressed with all the others.

All I mean by light and fast is something that's < or = maybe 5.0 or so. Something I can equip at the same time as my Thorn set and Havel's GS and still be able to medium roll with like 25ish END and Havel's ring. I'm open to suggestion, although I'm not using a katana. I'm sick to death of the katanas

I will just suggest Man serpernt greatsword. Its 10.0 so a bit more than you want but its pretty fast, good moveset and has an A in str at +15. I use it and love it on my str build.

Maybe a Large Club, I think it's pretty light (wood).

I love the large club. I use it for one of my other builds. I think it has the best/hardest to parry move set of any of the clubs.

I've decided to split this build into 2 builds. I ended up liking my BSS, Thorn set, glass power within/red tear stone build so much that I don't really want to incorporate Havel's shield anymore. Unfortunately I already gave him the 50 STR. I think I'm just going to rebuild that one from the ground up and give this one something larger to take advantage of his high STR stat and the Havel's shield. Maybe the Butcher's Knife. That's relatively light and has B STR scaling. Plus I've never really bothered with it before and its got some style.
