Blightown Swamp question? Empty Blightown Swamp question?

    Post by Kirk-Barb Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:47 pm

Blightown Marsh what a seething pit of dispair. It seems like everything in the place will poison you. The only good thing is I've only been invaded once in all the time I've wandered around lost and I was in such a god forsaken, secluded section that he couldn't find me and gave up after about 5 minutes. Either that, or he saw me dying of poison trying to fend off both leachs and giant mosquitoes and decided not to make it any more miserable on me.

But to my question. Are invaders subject to the slowing and poisoning effects of the swamp, or, like with my games enemies, they ignore it?

It's really easy to track in B-town Marsh, the poison damage can be seen by everyone afterall

Yeah... not a great place to invade. Poison affects you as an invader, so forget about being sneaky when they can see your health bar from a mile around. The slow walk isn't such a problem since there's a ring for it, so invaders who wear it could be at an advantage. But, invaders spawn way the hell over on the root that leads to the great hollow*, so it's impossible to catch a host who's running straight from the bonfire to Quelaag's door. Finally, the real problem with the area is the framerate. Bad framerate + online lag = terrible place to PvP in.

The swamp, that is! The little arena past the broken gate is a good place to PvP.

(Related side-note: one thing that doesn't affect invaders is, in Sen's, the fire from the Giant's giant firebombs.)

*Edit: there's an alternate spawn point for invaders that's in front of Quelaag's door, I think... But whatever, I don't want to invade in that area anyways! It would just be ill-equipped low-levels--not what I'm interested in fighting.)

Poisonbite ring, Bloodshield, and a Gargoyle weapon should give you plenty of time to be stealthy.

But the framerate is very true.
I wonder how the ring of Fogs stealth characteristic would preform there..

Well... As an invader, you're glowing red anyways! Haven't tried it, but I don't think the Ring of Fog is ever useful for invaders. For hosts, though (if that's what you meant), then yes it could be nearly impossible to find a host wearing it and a dark set of armor.

I know, I was so proud of it when I was invading the forest, then I noticed one host who was a bit a ways away waved to me, way to bring me out of the Bubble!
But I was thinking if the darkness would override the 'aura' of an invader. A SoV might work well.

BLA1NE: So you're telling me the big root I took refuge on in my blind flight from the leaches and mosquitoes is where the invaders spawn in. Great!!! Well at least I went back to my beginning to get the rusted ring, so I'm good there. I also have the gargoyle halberd, but I'll need to get to a campfire to get it out of my box. I'm wearing my Pyromancer gear instead of my chain as the poison resist is better.

This root leads to the Great Hollow huh? I think I need to look around a bit closer then.

When I go into the Great Hollow for the first time, I just grab the stamina ring and get out. It's not a good idea to go through here to Ash Lake unless you can warp. It takes too much time to have to climb out.

You have to drop to it above, it's in the central tree while climbing down.
There is no -other way- into Ash Lake.

@ Yarxov - He means that it's a real pain to have to climb out of The Great Hollow as opposed to going when you've got the Lordvessel and you can warp out of Ash Lake.

Yeah, it's best to go to Ash Lake when you can just warp out. At the very least, I wouldn't go to the Great Hollow before I got the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, either. It's a great idea to kill all the crystal geckos down there, but without the ring it's wasteful. I've gotten many slabs in there, so I would want to give myself the best chances of getting them every time I go.

    @Kirk

I think there's another spawn point right in front of Quelaag's door, though. I haven't invaded or been invaded enough in that area to know for sure.

Yep, I got the Cloranthy ring last night, then decided to leave Ash Lake till I can warp there after being cursed. It's a hell of a place to get back from when your cursed but luckily I managed, for once, not to fall to my death on the water wheel and managed to get back to Fire Link through New Londo ruins. A tip for the Great Hollow, buy the Fall Control spell if you haven't already got it. It wont save you every time you fall but it helps sometimes.

Ok. Everything you all have posted has been very helpful and worrying. But I don't have much choice here. I either find my way into the Hollow to a campfire and refresh my estas flasks and swap gear, or I take the big risk of dying and returning aaaalllllll the way back to the upper blighttown campfire. I shall leave the cyrstal geckos to another day as you suggest BLA1NE. I don't have a smith that can use better than large titanite anyway.

Well, there is a bonfire down at the swamp, in a tunnel. Usually people put signs in front of it, shouldn't be too hard to find.

middya: That might be true, but I got completely turned around in my panic to get onto the tree root and I have no idea where I even came from. All I can see from my position is poison marsh, giant leaches, giant mosquitoes, and who knows what that might be swimming underneath out of sight.

Hmm.. well. If I were you I'd step into the tree then, there is a bonfire right inside if I remember correctly. But I'd be very careful about going further into the tree, it looks cool but it's kind of a deathtrap if you're not prepared for it.

    Here's a link to a map:

Don't go back to upper BTown. Definitely one of the worst zones in the game. Go to the tunnel.

There's one bonfire just before the Great Hollow. The next bonfire is on the beach in Ash Lake.

Have a Home Bone? Go back to the bonfire even if it is the one in Blighttown. You can get down to teh swamp pretty fast. The fog ring will come in handy to help avoid the mosquitos.
