66 pages, 15 posts per page. I forgot that every 15th reply is a new page as the op takes up a space pushing the 990th post onto a new page by itself. So it the OP plus 66 pages with 15 replies each.

Oh, 66, that seems more reasonable, no wait, this is wrong, this number is so wrong  I hate that number.

I really like the movie. Even more than the book. But it was close.

It's called the Trilogy of 5 parts for a reason
I've also never read the books, watched the film which is hilarious though

Lol.....Serious, are you really that uncultured? Towels of course because they're the Swiss Army knives (or Leatherman if you want useful tools which I do) of space travel

Thanks for the response, particularly this one which I think is the pick of the bunch.
But honestly was there never any reason given? I'm gonna go research it

Re: Random Off-Topic
That's the real reason. The towel is an integral part of the books. Apart from the guide itself, it's the most iconic item in the series and at times does eclipse the guide.
Excerpt from Wikipedia entry on towels
In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
towels are described as the most "massively useful thing an
interstellar hitchhiker can have," an example usage being to ward off
the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. The fictitious time/space traveller and Guide Researcher Ford Prefect uses the idiom "a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is" to mean someone generally alert and aware. Some fans of Douglas Adams have seized on this idea, and towels are now considered a symbol of devotion to the Hitchhiker books, radio series, TV series, website, etc. Towel Day is held each year in memory of Adams.

Re: Random Off-Topic
Brilliant. Gone through a few pages of google and all it spews out at me is the same quote from the book that says it's the most useful thing for a hitchhiker to have, which you kindly again posted there for me in some sort of ironic mockery
I don't mean that though, I mean why did Adams choose for the item to be a towel? He could have picked anything to be this amazing piece of hitchhiker kit, but he chose the towel, I was just wondering why he did that, or if there was any specific reason for him doing so.

Re: Random Off-Topic
Well I guess he was right, a towel can be used for a lot of different things when in need, so it's probably very useful. Plus it's somewhat completely useless in other situations, which I guess it's the ironic part?

Most likely, I think it's very much meant in the ironic sense that it is useful in the book when in all intents and purposes it never would be.

Re: Random Off-Topic
I haven't come across anything in which he explained why towel over anything else. Like most of the books there is plenty there just for absurdity. My guess is that a towel just felt right to him.
Speaking of random.....
