He gives you a key you need to get, after you get the flasks, you can't avoid getting them.

Could I not go back throught the front door and face the demon without dropping on him? I always tend to not think things through, but this may be fruitless.

You could kill him with black firebombs as a starting gift, although I believe you don't receive the big pilgrim key until you go through the entire asylum.

If you kill the demon the first time you see him, oscar gives you the big pilgrim key, if not, then you get the key the second time you see the demon. Either way, ya gotta see oscar.

Even if getting it unavoidable, you could always unequip it and film your game as proof you didn't heal. If you did that you should totally send that to the from soft peeps.
