I was thinking of making a PvP character and using Avelyn, and wanted to know if anyone had tried it before.

I use a lightning avelyn+5 and as long as you know when to fire it, its a really nice weapon.

I used it to great effect on one of my builds the one thing you have to remember is that is has a reloading animation as bad as casting a fire ball spell. So in order to use it great effect only use it when your enemy is 1. running away from you 2. casting any type of spell (make sure you dodge projectile spel though) 3. when there is a great distance between you and you foe (10-15meters) 4. when there healing 5. when preforming the special R2 attacks of weapons like BLK great sword and the Demon great machette.
Edit: its also my suggestion that you keep it hidden untill they are vunerable since a good full hit can do 300-400dmg.
Another great tip is when a pyro cast great fire ball you dodge back wards and just as the fireball hits the ground you use the aveylen since the fire ball will obscure their view and most pyros like to run through their fires (must be an ego thing).

this video inspired my first true pvp build, and it destroys. but due to the small confines of Blight town for FC i was unable to continue the use of my avelyn.

i use a heavy crossbow+15 sometimes, you have to practice the timing and its pretty good, its really good for enemies that are running away to heal.

i prefer the light crossbow over the avelyn. light does good dmg still and it reloads faster. Has anyone else realized how great crystal crossbows are? or bows for that matter if you dont mind really low durability. you just have to take good care of them. compared to normal weapons crossbows/bows seem to get a much larger dmg boost then other weapons.

As some people already mentioned, a light crossbow works wonders, especially compared to the Avalyn. 1 shot from a Crystal Light Crossbow with a lightning arrow (it does more damage then the use of a heavy arrow, seriously) does the same amount of damage as 2.5 hits from a lightning Avalyn, and the Crossbow also reloads far faster. Power Within or a Red Tearstone Ring makes the Light Crossbow attain DPS the Avalyn could never dream of.

I guess you are a recycler of Crossbows, Rynn? The use of crystals disintegrate durability, and using crossbows does disintegrate it. I guess you have about, what, 5 crystal light crossbows with ya at once, eh?

did you honestly just compare a Crystal light crossbow with power within and red tearstone ring, to a +5 lightening avelyn??

No. I compared a Crystal light bow with PW and RTS to a Avalyn with Power Within and RTS.Glutebrah wrote:Rynn wrote:As some people already mentioned, a light crossbow works wonders, especially compared to the Avalyn. 1 shot from a Crystal Light Crossbow with a lightning arrow (it does more damage then the use of a heavy arrow, seriously) does the same amount of damage as 2.5 hits from a lightning Avalyn, and the Crossbow also reloads far faster. I have 2 on me at once. I only shoot it when spellcasters cast Crystal Soul Sphere, or during other very long cast animations.Acidic_Cook wrote:I guess you are a recycler of Crossbows, Rynn? lol why is everyone aiming those comments at rynn. i also said that crystal crossbows were beast. while normal weapons gain only about 40dmg crystallized crossbows gain almost a 100. i have a +4 crystal and a lightning i switch depending on whether i think the opponent has more elemental or physical deff.

Crystal Soul Sphere... your typing on an Ipod, arn't ya? Or some other device that corrects **** that doesn;t need to be corrected.
I agree, that seems like a logical thing to do... compared to shooting it when they are running after you with a giant blade. I do it too at times. Of course, I have learned it is just easier to let them waste their sorceries on me, as I am good at rolling sideways, forwards, and sometimes (but risky) backwards.

i do wish crystalized weapons were able to be repaired or got more dmg then they do. crystalized weapons are really only for when you feel like making some random weapon +4 crystal cause you have a bunch of chunks.

Try shields and crossbows. Especially Shields. Buy about 6 heater shields, balder shields, or whatever your taste is, and make them crystal. to +3 is best, so that you can repair them with one (or if like two) upgrades. Its good. My companion uses them now.

Re: Has anyone tried Crossbows in PvP?
Personally I just wish +5 didn't take a slab. As they stand it feels like it was a chunk sink, seeing as the devs probably foresaw the Kiln being a PvP area, and you get so many chunks there. I'm genuinely surprised I don't see +4 crystal more often.FruitPunchNinja wrote:i do wish crystalized weapons were able to be repaired or got more dmg then they do. crystalized weapons are really only for when you feel like making some random weapon +4 crystal cause you have a bunch of chunks.
I'm beta testing a Google Chrome optional feature that does that auto correct BS. Personally I'm going to turn it off if it get's implemented. I like to let them waste their sorceries too, but after two or three of them, I like to get a 500 point blow on them, sort of to tell them I don't appreciate having to dodge.
EDIT: Shields are awesome when Crystalized! Very fun to get that extra bit of Stability, especially with the Eagle Shield.
